Thank you for developing and posting this thread. Excellent information and accompanying photos. The thought and workmanship that went into the project are obvious. I also like the x-brace being bolted in (which had never occurred to me). Admittedly it’s a tiny detail in the grand scheme, but a handy modification for anyone keeping the brace. I’ll be doing that to mine the next time there’s an opportunity.

The drain you designed is certainly more professional looking than many of the holes I’ve seen punched in a variety of floors from back in the 60’s when many took the easy route.

Dean, It is the stock compressor. Used on SSR's and a few other cars. I like the idea of a scroll compressor as opposed to pistons.

OOps. I went back and re-read the complete thread again and see I missed all the info that I asked about. My installation is a 5.3 truck motor out of a 2003 Silverado. I don't know what type of compressor those motors used as the motor I have did not come with the compressor. I too want to utilize the lower stock mount and all the stock serpentine system. I have measured a compressor that is supposed to be for these motors and it looks close.

I really enjoy your threads for the detailed info that you are willing to share. I applaud you for those efforts and envy your skills.

wow great detail, we can tell you are a machinist, I have a couple of questions, I have seen other installs and they did not use the standoffs, were these necessary to leave room for the a/C--heater fittings on the side closest to the firewall...??? or are there other things that interfere with moving things closer to the firewall......?

Mine is mounted as high and as far toward the driver as possible. The left end of the evaporator is against the hump so it won't go back any further. You can move the whole thing as far to the passenger side as possible, and it still looks like it won't clear the hump.

The only other GEN IV that I have seen in our trucks that show the mounting is JGROSS which is referenced in your thread. If you look at the picture of the cab with the dynamat in it you can see he has standoffs that look about like mine. He mounted closer to the passenger side and blocked off the passenger fresh air vent. That puts the floor vents all on the passenger side.

I could have just used some threaded rod to make the standoffs, I just happened to have the aluminum round bar.

I was going to use one of the VintageAir compact units but Coolair advised me to go with the GEN IV. It really works well, the controls are very nice and I am very happy with it.

Hi Prostreet,

I let the Vintage air controller request the AC directly to the AC clutch. The high pressure switch is wired to the ECM just by the factory wiring. The ECM is happy to control the high pressure with the fans even though it didn't request the AC. I have a low pressure switch but it is not wired in. Since the factory didn't use one it must be ok.

You should put the low pressure switch in series with the clutch, that way you will know when it is low before your compressor packs it in.

Still working good after all these years. Went to the Home Depot in the old truck today to buy lumber, needed the AC 90+ degrees.
