65 on a 70 frame
How hard would it be to put a 65 cab on a 70 frame . I have a 65 short service body truck with manual everything . Have a 70 frame with power steering and have a front cross member from a 74 for disc brakes . My reasoning is I could build the 70 frame before taking the body off the 65 frame .
Or am I better off using the 65 frame with the 74 cross member and adding power steering ? Future build but gathering info . |

Personally I would keep your original frame, but the '70 frame can be used with a few changes. The '70 frame is far easier than a '73-'87 frame swap.

The only part of the 74 frame I want to use on whichever frame is the complete front cross member with the disc brake set up . Im not opposed to using the 65 frame with that cross member with your power steering adapter bracket . Just gathering info at this point as I have my 70 Stepper build ahead of it .

I would stick with the original frame. Wouldn't have to mess with making the bumper fit on the front frame horns, and if there's any special mounts on the frame for that service body, they would have to be transferred over as well. Technically, you don't have to swap out the entire cross member. Can just use ball joints for a 73-87 and run the disc brake spindles. That's how mine is set up

Besides the mentioned frame-horn/bumper differences, the 65 radiator support mounts are in a slightly different mounting location as are the rear cab mounts vs. the 70.
Swap the later disc brakes over to the 65 frame.
