Help! 85 swb 454 swap?

Ok guys first off I’m not good at typing. I bought the truck with a 350 crate had a heavy cam so the previous owner took the top part of the engine apart so I started planning a LS swap so I pick up a running and driving 04 Tahoe with a 5.3 so I done a lot of research so I dived in took the front clip and engine and transmission out a few weeks ago well the plan completely derailed when a 91 3/4 ton suburban with a 454 in it with 101k this truck is in great shape other than not having reverse is this a easier swap? Since they are both Squarebodys

What do I have to alter?

I never done a project like this I know that everything on the suburban would swap over

My question is electrical and fuel since 85 is manual and 91 is electrical and in the tank

Please help?

I vote continue on with the LS swap. In 1991, that 454 would be a Gen 5 which is a worthless engine IMO. If you really want a big block, either source a Mark IV or step up to the Gen 6.

The big block probably would be a cheaper swap, but the LS would probably a more powerful engine in the end. Myself, I think I would do the big block, and modify it if I want more umph.

I agree because I’m an experience and LS swap I know they’ll be a lot of hiccups plus I have other projects that I could use the LS in and the 454 has 103k runs perfect I drove 300 miles and never skipped a beat the LS runs good but I can’t use The transmission it’s a 4x4 and it got 202k on it

I agree I was hot on the trail for a LS swap a 1997 Short bed Silverado fell in my lap with the LS swap and then Suburban fell in my lap shortly after just cause I was in the hunt for a 1991 front clip so happens it’s got a 454 and I could do the swap easier with my kid I’m hoping it’s a plug-in play I need a little help to know the ins and outs of what will it take I have all the parts in the suburban running and driving truck but 85 never drove since I’ve had it so if anybody has any information it Would be very appreciated

Re: Help! 85 swb 454 swap?

I like the paint scheme on your truck. Reminds me of the Wrangler paint scheme that some Canadian trucks have. It's hard to beat the efficiency and power of an LS. But if you're using your truck for fun and not as a daily driver, in my world, nothing says b!tch!n like a big block. But when I was growing up 4-5-4 were magic numbers. So just driving around knowing I've got a big block under the hood is part of the enjoyment for me.

Re: Help! 85 swb 454 swap?

I am doing the same thing, pulled a 454 out of a 1991 motorhome and hope to have time to put it in my 87 V2500 in 2021. These are some of the threads I had saved to reference. You may find some info here.

Re: Help! 85 swb 454 swap?

I learned about some folks not impressed with the the gen V 454 and its build limitations after purchase, but It will tow my camper better than the old 350.

Here is a pic cleaned up and painted if it loads.
