Need a professional weatherstripping installer - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I need a professional to install the top weatherstripping on the 1970 blazer. It leaks and makes me angry. I totally installed the new stuff when I completely rebuilt everything but the weatherstripping I read and installed it just like it was on it before but I still have pesky leaks. So upset I can't fix this on my own. Maybe a professional knows the right tricks that I don't. Needs to be near or in Missouri. Are there any of you with same issues? I am going to tear it down this winter and get it dry. Please help me my Missouri brothers...

Nice truck. I'm having the same problem, I just can't keep it from leaking. I'm eager to hear what you can find. I'm sure someone on here has the answer to our problems. Up here in Washington I keep my console stuffed with towels. haha

My understanding is that they leaked from the factory

But if done right they will not leak. I have the same issue with my truck. I found a private body shop about 5 miles from my house that does street rods on the side and he said he would work on my truck. Good luck.

I don't know anyone in MO but I would recommend trying to find a reputable glass shop and see if they can help you. Obviously a glass company would be accustomed to working with weather stripping and would be able to work with it on your top.

I just spent close to $700 for new seals. Got the single wall window seals and w/shield deflectors from gmc pauls, then everything else from LMC. Hope LMC has good stuff. Im looking at selling my topper and refinishing my extra topper. Both single walls

That is a great looking truck! I have done a bunch of different things with my seals that only made the leak smaller, but still there.

It could be the difference of quality? Shouldn't be that hard to get a top to seal if the seals are infact made correctly and everything is snugged down properly, meaning pulling the top forward and down on the windshield frame first before tightening the bed rails.

I've heard the quality of seals isn't that great from LMC and most prefer to get them from places like Classic Chevy or Pauls. Evidently there is a difference in quality. I know I've seen some varying in quality and fitment when doing weatherstripping on other classic cars, some of that stuff is simply junk.

I know I'll be digging deeper into these issue when the time comes. My top doesn't leak however when I feel the need to pull it off, the weatherstripping will have to be replaced.

I believe there was a post on here a month or so back that addressed that exact issue.
LMC weatherstripping is made by another company and fitment wasn't perfect. That same post mentioned either Pauls or another Classic Chevy parts supplier that had better quality seals, albiet a little more money.

That's why I wondered who the supplier was for the original poster. It could be that he isn't doing anything wrong, it's just the quality of the product.

I run into this crap all the time while restoring muscle cars. Alot of aftermarket stuff doesn't fit properly, and the parts that are supposed to be "concours" isn't even close to resembling the original part in some cases.

well heck. Maybe I can get some upper window and door seals from pauls and still be ok. I think I already have lmc seals and there ok but not GM

I would think that the windshield and door frame areas are the critical areas where most leaks occur, so your thinking may work.

The only weatherstrip I've replaced on mine is around the rear window hatch. For that I used LMC and it has worked great with no leaks, shuts nice and tight with no rattles.
The rest of mine has original GM seals, although dried and cracked where exposed to the sun. Amazingly, no leaks.

I'd like to replace it at some point, and I'll probably do just as you described and source it from somewhere else, then hope for the best.

Three ideas..........

One. Move to the desert. mine doesn't leak very much.

Two. Be careful who you find as an expert. A ranger once told me the difference between an average guy and an expert snake handler is only about 3 beers. I expect most local body shops do not have much experience on old blazers.

three. I always put the top to the windshield frame and bolt it first then worry about the bed sides. No leaks yet on the windshield frame but still plenty around the windows. I repainted back in 1993 when replacemend seals weren't available and ended up using a strip of adhesive foam bought from the camper shell dealer. It has held up well where the top meets the bed sides. Good luck.

Hey brother, I am here in missouri, I bought all new seals from classic parts in riverside, that may be the same as classic chevy not sure. I havent got everything installed yet but I will let you know how mine does soon as I get it on the road, good luck!

Precision is the way to go. LMC's are all made in China. I bought from LMC. Had to throw them away and then bought from Precision.

All my seals I just installed on my c10 are precision. Good quality and went on like the originals. I purchased them from gmc Paul's. To bad they don't make the glue free door seals for the blazer. So much easier to install and are re-usable
