Parking brake trouble

I bought a new intermediate parking brake cable (LMC #34-3828 - 94 3/4" long) and it seems to be too long - or am I being dumb and doing something wrong? PO removed the factory one. I have a 700R4 trans if that makes any difference. LMC doesn't list one specifically for the blazer. I know the blazer has a shorter wheel base than a short bed. Does the blazer take a shorter one? Know where I can get one?

Re: Parking brake trouble

Inline tube sells them specifically for blazers, even 2wd or 4wd. They can also make a custom length intermediate cable for cheap.

Re: Parking brake trouble

I'm also looking for parking brake cables for my '71 K5. I went on Inline's site but did not the the Blazers listed. Did you find them on there? Or do you have to special order them?

Thanks.

***Follow-up… nevermind, I found them. This is a great site! Thanks for turning us on to it.***

Re: Parking brake trouble

I got the cable from inline. It appears to be too short. I'm stuck. What to do.

Re: Parking brake trouble

I hear they are a pretty stellar company, and they do custom lengths, so I imagine you could contact them and tell them the cable(s) are too short and they will get you the correct length cables. Let us know how it goes. Mine just shipped. Fingers are crossed!

Re: Parking brake trouble

I got part #SIN442, (stainless cable for a 69-72 Blazer/Jimmy 1/2 - 3/4 ton, 2 wd). It seems way too short, same as the one from LMC seems way too long. I'm "assuming" that the front cable is standard. PO removed the entire parking brake from my Jimmy, so all I have to work with is a bunch of parts that I have bought and the picture in the LMC catalog. It's a puzzle trying to get them all to fit together. Let me know how you make out with your new cable. Thanx, Greg

Re: Parking brake trouble

I got the complete Blazer set - Part #BST6944 - but it seems there is a cable missing. I have the two rear cables that go to the drums, and the one that hooks up to the parking brake assembly, but the one in the middle is missing.

Isn't the middle one the one just a standard non sheathed cable? Hmmm, I can't remember. My setup is the complete stainless setup from Inline Tube as well. Guess Ill have to look tomorrow, The only thing I've installed is the front sheathed piece from the PB peddal to the middle of the frame. I'm just hoping I can get it to clear all my custom 'stuff' , and make it work with my Willwood brake setup.

Re: Parking brake trouble

Yes the only one missing is the plain intermediate(?) cable. I believe it was supposed to be included in the 'complete' kit though, was it not?

Re: Parking brake trouble

The intermediate cable is the one I'm having trouble with. I have an assortment of them. It would be the only one that is different from vehicle to vehicle, I believe. I'd be interested to know ya'all make out.

Re: Parking brake trouble

Yep, I checked the box, and this kit came with everything. Here's the package with the center cable.

Re: Parking brake trouble

Maybe that's where I've gone wrong. I didn't get a package. I just got a cable in an envelope. Ha, ha. The cable I got from Inline is 65 1/2". The cable from LMC is 94 3/4". Big difference! I don't know the correct length or I could get one made. Can anyone tell me the correct length?

Re: Parking brake trouble

Hey 4oldcars, did you ever find out the right length for the cable?
Ordered one from a company. 64.5 inches. It was at least 4 inches too short. I called them back and they sent another at 68.25. Seems to be almost 2 inches short still. What the heck? Realized I had other issues. So I ordered the whole kit from inline tube. Back cables, great. Front cable, great. Intermediate 64.5 inches. Argh. There was no cable to measure from. But it looks like 71-72 inches would work. But wanted a second opinion.

Re: Parking brake trouble

I have been busy - - relocating - - and have done nothing with mine. Just recently started working on it again. I'm wondering now if the front cable is different length for different models. There must be a lay out better than the LMC catalog someplace.
