Camper Special info

Did 1978 Silverado Camper special come from factory with factory tie down holes in bed and camper dampening shocks mounted in front of bedsides to cab. Was this a addon. Any help would be great.

Yes on the horizontal shocks, as highlighted above. But I don't know what you mean by 'factory tie down holes'? Got any pictures?

Yes, in the “Deluxe Camper Special” package. Regular CS option did not.

Re: Camper Special info

I did not know that there was a deluxe version of the camper special. I had a 73 C20 454 camper special and now have a 83 C20 454 camper special and neither had the extra items you show listed.

73 was the first year for the Z83 "Deluxe Camper Special", Z81 being the "Basic Camper Special". Not sure off the top of my head when it went away.

Re: Camper Special info

the bed that is on my 76 came off a 74 camper special. the holes in the side of the bed had large bolts with s clamps on the end so that you could tie off a slide in camper box to them. I also found small shocks that were held to these mounting points to the back of the cab.. over the years it ripped the metal in the cab.

Re: Camper Special info

I just picked up a 77 Z83 deluxe Camper Special with a 454. I did not know these options existed until I did some research on here. Bought it off of the original owner. Pretty rusty but deserves to be saved.

The "extras" debuted in '73. but the engineering work started in '71.
