I'm liking the project so far, I just picked up an 85 that hasn't ran in 12 years and the rust isn't as bad as yours but i still have a project ahead of me. Keep on truckin

anyone know of a CHEAP place to get floor pans and rockers. obviously cheaper then lmc there my last resort because of rediculious pricing. Lmk i have seen rockauto, ebay lmc, and a few others but im like everyone else...on a TIGHT budget!

Re: Im New here! some info about my k5!

Unfortunately there are a couple pieces of not-as-good news for you on the "cheap" front. Looking at where your rust ate into and how much metal you cut back you appear to have the following options:

1) buy the smaller patch panels - partial front floors, inner rockers, slip over style outer rocker then bend, trim, and fabricate sheetmetal or old body panels to fill the empty gaps between where you cut and where the patches end.

2) buy the larger panels that cost more and cut them to where you need.

3) find someone parting out a blazer out west who can cut and ship you custom rust-free patch panels in the dimensions you need.

4) try to find another blazer tub that doesn't need quite as much work to swap onto your frame.

Your tub is fixable, but, unless you want to cut and bend sheetmetal there isnt a cheap drop right in and weld source for all the parts you cut out or had photos of marker showing areas to be cut.

You also have the problem of china sheetmetal is cheaper, but often thinner and needs a bit of finessing to make fit even when you're not trying to put together many smaller panels to fix large areas. USA stamped parts usually have thicker metal gauge and better fit, but, cost more. Many suppliers of repop parts for these trucks all carry china stampings from the same factory in different boxes.

If you're going the off-road route in your future, there are some interesting rides out there on some other sites. One guy at ck5.com removed his whole floor and replaced it with diamond plate, plus built in tube steel instead of having original rockers. I think it was a brown truck from NY but that was a couple years ago...

LMAO, does your mom know what that shocker sticker means?

Nice rig, coming along good. Careful with the "cheap". Often means more work or redoing it sooner rather than way later.

I got started on squares when I was 16. Almost 20 years later and I still have my 2nd square (avatar), and a K5 as a DD. Enjoy. Bit of advice, dump as much money into that rig as you can before you get married. After that it slows down big time.

Re: Im New here! some info about my k5!

greg, we will keep it on the DL. to be honest, i think shes playing dumb or not trying to draw attention to it. haha. and for the cheap thing, think im going to hold off on the floor for a while. my buddy should be getting a truck similar to this just for the 6.2 in it and hopefully i can snag the driver door and cut a huge chunk out of his roof to replace my crappy sunroof. as of now, CT isnt getting good "project truck weather" but i start it up every day and move it up the driveway in the a.m. and bring it back in at night. hopefully in the spring i will get my first real job and pay for this pig and gettin this show on the road.
