Almond or Saddle Tan interior color - your opinion?

I bought some of the USA1 interior dye in the Almond color to refinish some panels in the cab of my '83. I started with the kick panels and when I got them done, they seemed lighter in color than I was expecting. They look a little more like Saddle Tan, but maybe I just don't know what Almond is supposed to look like when it's not faded and weathered. Here's a pic of the kick panel refinished in the Almond. In the one pic you can see it compared to the weathered factory Almond door panel. I know the lighting isn't the best. What are your thoughts? Has anyone used the Almond dye from USA1 before?

Thanks!

I have never heard of Almond, as a color for our trucks interior. I use USA1 Industries Dye all the time, but Saddle Tan mostly. I’ve used Camel Tan & Dark Saddle. They don’t even list Almond as a color.

Yeah, Almond was last available in ‘83 and I believe it was Saddle Tan after that. The guys at USA1 knew of the Almond color and said they could mix it up for me in the dye, which is what I ordered. It just seemed a little lighter than I was expecting.

My exterior is Saddle Tan, interior Nevada Gold. Can't find that in the chart.

Yeah, I have a 1983 sales brochure for the truck and it lists Almond as an interior color, no Saddle Tan that year. I believe ‘82 was the same. I have an ‘82 brochure I can check.

Did not know that, I just learned something new today
There was one time I ordered Saddle Tan and the can said Saddle Tan, but it just didn’t look right. So I got one of my other Saddle Parts out and compared it. Wonder if it was the Almond. I called them, and they replaced those 2 cans that were wrong. In the pic, the seatbelt is Saddle. You can see the other part is a lot lighter. They didn’t know what color got put in that can, but it wasn’t Saddle

Interesting. I might contact them too and see what they have to say. As a side note, I have brochures from '82, '83, and '84. '82 and '83 list the Almond and '84 lists Saddle Tan as a new interior color for that year (no more Almond). Attached are shots from the '82 and '83 brochures.

Re: Almond or Saddle Tan interior color - your opinion?

One thing I noticed reading what I could see on the brochure, is that it is talking about GMC trucks. I maybe wrong about this, but some of the colors on the GMC were called another name than that of the Chevy, although they were the same color. Maybe at some point, they realized this was confusing, and started calling the colors the same after a certain year. Let me give you an example. I was working with someone, about getting his seatbelts and interior parts dyed. And also a seat cover. He kept telling me that his interior was Bronze, which from the color chart above, there is no Bronze. The color listed is Mahogany. So before we began, I dyed a small part and sent a small sample of the material for the seat cover. I used Mahogany. Once he got the stuff, he compared it to his trucks interior. It was a perfect match. And guess what? His truck was a GMC.
So it’s either, one of two thing. There really was a lighter color called Almond, or Almond became Saddle Tan, so both trucks had the same name of the color.

Since you have brochure for the 82, what are all of the interior colors that it lists? If you can post a picture of it, I would really appreciate it.

Here’s a page from the ‘82 Chevy brochure. Sorry I don’t know why the picture keeps rotating.

I will say, that color looks light. But I don't know what Almond looked like. The part you did dye looks like Saddle to me. Even the parts I did in that wrong color that they sent, doesn't look the same. But it could just be the lighting.

How does that piece I sent you, compare to your original parts? Do you still have any that you have not dyed Almond yet?
That 2nd pic on your first post, that looks Saddle to me.

Sure I have some original panels that haven’t been dyed yet. I’ll get a pic in better light tomorrow.

That second pic in the first post is actually the same kickpanel dyed in the Almond just in different lighting.

Here's some pics of the Saddle Tan trim next to original, un-dyed Almond trim. The Almond trim pieces are pretty weathered.

Yeah, I might go with the Saddle Tan. It seems to be a closer match to the original interior parts than the Almond dye. Thank you for all of your help!

I thought that too, especially up next to the seatbelts. Which BTW, I restore seatbelts. So I would more than happy to do yours for you. I have a thread, the link is at the bottom, on my signature.
And your welcome
