We run the original tanks in all the trucks we have and have not had a problem so far.

I would cover it in Carpet and insulator to stop the smell. May sound weird I like the smell of Gasoline Haha.

Original tank here! My '72 GMC the tank is all rusty on the inside so I'm looking to swap it out for another one that isn't ... but it'll be staying in the cab

I just replaced the original with a new one just like it. Original was leaking and I don't want to be customizing a fuel filler.

I am. I think they are awesome. But I also want to put in a blazer tank and still use the original filler neck and cap so some gas line routing will have to take place.

I still use mine, I had to replace the original but got a used one just like it. I dont get any fuel smell in my cab, at least not that i have noticed.

No the gas tanks on the 72s are vented through a hose instead of the cap

I know some people think they're unsafe- but I think they're fine. My wife has a 71 VW bug & the tank on those are in front of the dash (makes the old Pintos seem safe!) I like the noise & smell of the gas too.

I'm running the original tank. Looked inside mine the other day and it is clean as a whistle. No gas smell in the cab either... but then again every time I open the cap it has a little pressure inside so I guess it seals up pretty tight... not sure but I think the 70 vents from the cap. As I can push on it and make it vent.
