Question tranny fluid coming out of the dipstick hole?

On a truck i just got i finally got the motor started up and poured in some tranny fluid. I filled it up to the full line then when i was going down the road it started leaking out. Then when i pulled the dipstick out a lil bit it looked like a volcano of tranny fluid. What could cause this?

Re: tranny fluid coming out of the dipstick hole?

i would have to say the vent on the side of the tranny is plugged up, that would be my first guess, the vent should be right by where the lines go in the side of the case, check that

Re: tranny fluid coming out of the dipstick hole?

My vent was a little tube on top of the trans. A little shot of air and the problem was fixed, but too much air will blow the fluid back.Good luck

Re: tranny fluid coming out of the dipstick hole?

If you filled it to full with the tranny cold you may have over filled it. But I would check the vent tube also, especially if you have dirt dobbers in your area.

I've been having a similar problem with my tranny. Guess I should try cleaning out the vent on mine too. Thanks guys.

Re: tranny fluid coming out of the dipstick hole?

i'd try just using a thin piece of wire running it up and down thru the vent tube

Cdowns is right, try not to get anymore dirt into the tranny than you have to.

Re: tranny fluid coming out of the dipstick hole?

if i were you i would really try to take the tube out of the case to get it all cleaned out, be sure not to break it off in the case but just twist on it some and it should come out, make sure you dont blow back into the trans though. good luck

Re: tranny fluid coming out of the dipstick hole?

You didn't mention if you added the fluid with the engine running or not. Just a thought, but the engine must be running while adding fluid to level, or you will overfill it. Also, I put it in gear a few times and recheck the level.
