Hooked the steering up and installed the alternator bracket. Got to swap the long water pump for a short one tomorrow.
I ordered the GM Disc Brake Conversion Proportional Valve Kit Disc/Drum Proportional Valve along with a Lokar Column Shift Linkage GM TH350 TH400 4L60E TH200 700R4 ACA-1800. Suppose to be here Tuesday so I hope by next Friday it's up and running.
Tomorrow plan is install throttle cable and brackets for the kick down for the 700-R4.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Good day on the 68. Got the 67 amp alternator on and took all the old external regulator wiring out and ran everything to the alternator. Need to find a alternator arm to work with it though. Got the steering all hooked up. Throttle cable done and 700R4 kick down cable is in. Not adjusted yet but it's in.
Still need a squirrel cage for the heater motor.

Temporarily hooked up the battery and it has lights.

Well I checked the NSS today and it works. We cranked the truck yesterday with the key switch. Ran good. Only problem I have now is the oil gauge isn't working so I have to get another gauge installed. Put a temporary gauge on it and it shows 60lbs.
Got the shifter linkage hooked up but didn't get it completely adjusted like I wanted. Will finish that and putting the finishing touches on the brakes to start filling them and bleeding.

I didn't quite make it to where I wanted but I'm close. Truck has brakes and it has a seat and the gear shifter linkage is almost done. Had a few minor part setbacks so didn't make it all the way to where I wanted to be tonight but should be tomorrow.

Got the 60/40 seat out of the donor truck and put the drivers side in to pump the brakes after we let it gravity fill. Then we bleed them good and we have brakes. Gonna take the seat this weekend and give it a good bath and shampoo to get all the grim off. Clean the seat belts up good and install.
Blower wheel came in and will be installed tomorrow along with the water pump that finally showed up.

Re: Daughters 68 step...

More part problems but I worked through it and hope to be back on it tomorrow. Balancer was to big for the power steering bracket, so I bought a smaller one to install tomorrow and everything should be good. I hope. Still need a PS pulley though but a friend thinks he has one.

I bought some cleaning stuff today for the seat cleaning tomorrow as well. Hope I can get it done and let dry until Monday.

I have front & rear lights now and the shift linkage is good. All gears can be selected with no binding. That took a lot more time than I thought it would.

Well I'm much closer than I was!

Finally got the right crank pulley and power steering pulley. I got the right alternator belt but the power steering was a tad short. Have another and will try tomorrow. Got PS hoses also. Should be putting water in her tomorrow I hope and running and moving under it's own power.

Get the hood and cowl back on she will be ready to test drive.

Bah! Who needs a hood?!!?
It is fun to do a short cruise without the hood on. You know, just to make sure everything is ok under there.

Looking good

Back where I grew up, you took a test ride thru town with hood off to show you had just changed or rebuilt your engine and was looking for a race. Plus like Clay said," make sure everything is OK"

Well it took a little longer than I planed but it's alive and running and charging. Power steering is all hooked up and good no leaks so far on anything.

The radiator hose didn't fit so I had to go buy a new water neck to get the hose to work. The only thing I found was chrome so chrome it is until I can find a stock regular one.

I think I will have to find a stock water temp senor to after running it tonight the gauge was half way, but my thermal gun showed it as right at 195*.

Oil pressure was good also, 60lbs was what the test gauge showed and my truck gauge is about 3/4 over to the right.
Hope to get the hood and seat all bolted back in it tomorrow and bring it home Sunday.

Well today I brought the 68 home on the Ramp truck. I worked on the front end and just about got it all back on. I did take it for a short ride up to the end of the street but with no exhaust I didn't want to go to far. Going to call about the exhaust tomorrow. I bought a cheap seat cover for it also.

IME, the first line on on the left of the temp gauge is 180 degrees and that a 195 would have the needle straight up and down.

Congrats on getting it running. I have been following along from the start.

I'm liking this no bed concept on the 68. I have been thinking about a nice wood flat bed and make some brackets to hold the chopper's on it to take to shows on the back of the ramp truck!

Yep that's what I got to do. I hate draining it for that. I had to use a Chrome housing because that's all I had so I may wait until I find a stock one to swap it out also.

I got a little more done. Got the grille all in and lined up good plus the hood is aligned best I could. Got the hood letters installed and new inner fender for the passenger side today. Got the gas gauge working also. After wiping down the front of the hood I guess I need to wash the whole dang truck now!

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
