Not a bad way iof advertising a truck you are taking to a big swapmeet. It's a pretty solid looking truck but I'd rather see it with the original wheels and tires and not be expected to pay an extra thousand for the new set of trailer wheels and a set of tires I would probably never use.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: '51 Shortbed on CL/Carlisle

The wheels do match, don't they? That's funny. I don't think the seller is bumping the price up due to wheels. Certainly not $1,000 for a $300 set. Probably more like covering his expense from bringing the truck back east where you don't find then this nice. I see it has MO tags. A $100 set of factory steel 6-lugs would do wonders and someone would pay more than that for some good trailer wheels . t least a buyer would be paying more for a whole lit of changes they didn't like. Pretty much am empty canvas is what i see. I think it could make a good start for someone. Just thought I'd share for anyone in the P area or going to Carlisle this week.

Re: '51 Shortbed on CL/Carlisle

You see that here a lot, a guy with a fairly decent truck runs down to the tire store and has a cheap set of new wheels and tires thrown on to try and increase the price a bunch. It's a pretty decent looking truck but most guys are going to stick that set of wheels and tires in their wife's next yard sale anyhow and would be a lot more interested in the truck if the asking price was the price of the wheels and tires less than the current asking price.

Re: '51 Shortbed on CL/Carlisle

I see what you're saying. What I'm saying is in this area a truck like this would be that price regardless of the wheels. It's no secret the white spoke wheels aren't most people's cup of tea and don't serve well to enhance interest. A set of commonly available rallye wheels would do more for that. Or,as you mentioned,a set of stock style steel wheels. I don't know what the seller was thinking,or if it was the guy in MO he bought it from who installed the wheels. All I know is you don't find these in such condition, basically solid, complete, and not a lot of money dumped in yet, around here and I thought I'd share for any members close by to hop on before it makes it to Carlisle where it certainly will sell. It's not worth it for someone who lives where it's more common to see a truck like this, and possibly for less,to buy and pay to ship back off the Est Coast. Back in the '90s I had my '63 Riviera listed in Hemmings and a woman from TX called on it. I told her,"You don't want to buy a car from back east. You can find one a lot closer. We buy your stuff to bring back here".

I wish I could find new "Trailer wheels and tires for $300" as mentioned above, my panel would have new tires on it before the sun sets...

Yes, Speciak K one doesn't have a lot of options on these trucks in this area anymore.. Sure craigslist has a few affordable basket cases and half finished projects that would better lend themselves to parts donors, but not much that runs and drives for under $8000

Re: '51 Shortbed on CL/Carlisle

Wheels and tires aside it's still a great way to advertise that you will have an interesting vehicle at a swap meet and where it will be sitting at said swap meet. That takes the pressure off a lot of prospective buyers as they don't have to make an appointment to see it nor feel pressured when they do look at it. It also lets those of us hunting for such a truck know when and where they can see it and in most areas a lot of us are heading to the major swap meet in that area anyhow.

Re: '51 Shortbed on CL/Carlisle

I agree,it is a great way to advertise. Maybe some will go to the event just because of this truck. They can gander, linger, crawl under, etc before the seller even knows they're interested.

The $300 comment was referring to just the wheels. They're about $75 each new, maybe even less. Thing is,you can get a set of steelies for $100.

Re: '51 Shortbed on CL/Carlisle

Well someone go look at it and take a bunch of pictures to show if it is actually as good as it looks trailer wheels and all.

The truck reminds me of going to swap meets 20 years ago and seeing cars and trucks with fresh primer and fresh cheapie wheels with the seller hoping that that would increase the selling price several hundred dollars in most cases.

Re: '51 Shortbed on CL/Carlisle

that truck might be priced for the east coast but it's about 50% overpriced for west coast. white spoked wheels belong on car trailer or base for bench grinder stand, they make it look like some 19 year old kid owns it. gotta love the blanket covered seat that isn't mexican print or schucks deluxe seat cover. does have one thing going for it, no honda bucket seats!
