Re: Patina pics

Have to say the after looks a lot better!

Was there a different paint/clear coat the factory used in the years these trucks were produced? I don't think I have seen any left for rust square bodies. Unlike the older trucks, I see those all the time..

Re: Patina pics

Original paint was high solid enamel.

Base coat clear coat started around 1988.

Re: Patina pics

I'm not sure this classifies as patina but here is mine the day she came home with me. She had been sitting in a carport dead for almost 7 years.

Re: Patina pics

Maybe splash some acid or something on the old paint, like that blue truck on the trailer. Something to help it alon to looking like real aged petina.

Hard to tell from the pic, but did you shorten the wheelbase? Looks like you did, and the front of the bed looks cut, but the rear doesn't.

I like how it looks!

You're dead on. Bed and wheelbase was shortened 14 inches to match a shortbed. Haven't done the back yet. Good eye. I'm waiting till its under its own power so I can see it from more than 10 feet away to decide if the back needs cut. Most likely will tho. Check out my build thread. And thanks for the thumbs up.

I just want to put a little shine on it and let it "be". But every time I see body work going on I start thinking about how it might look all repaired. Your pics have helped me to finally be OK with the patina.

Much appreciated...
Your very welcome, I'm glad that you like it! It's funny how perspectives on what looks good changes over time. Ten years ago, I would have never built a truck and left the rust. Now, I love em this way.

Re: Patina pics

Here's mine. When I bought it the po had rattl canned it flat black and painted the bottom 10" with roll on bed liner. I sanded all of the black off. It still needs some work. I was so bummed when the po told me it was orig blue paint with some light surface when he bought it.

More like rustina. I don't see many post-73 trucks having "patina"...I mean faded paint, most are just rusty lol
