I stand corrected! I didn't realize that you had to section the roof also. I helped a friend do a 52 Chevy truck and that was what I based my assumption on, my bad. By the way, that's the Longhorn I was talking about. I still think the long bed is what allows you to lay the windshield back. It flows. A short bed would really throw things out of proportion. Maybe if you section the truck too? Just my opinion.

the roof on my longhorn was not sectioned, like in a straight chop. To be honest, I think both ways have there merits,& would be pretty much the same amount of work......just in different areas. I may find out, My oldest kid has a 89 ranger that he thinks should be chopped(he better be willing to work!)......AL

Both are very nice trucks! IMO, a 3-4 " chop is about right on these trucks when mildly lowered. I think the slammed shortbed trucks seem to take a little more chop (5-6"),& still look great! In my area, there is a slammed longbed, that is chopped 8"......I think a little much, but it still draws a crowd, because the workmanship is excelllent..........Al

You guys have got to stop posting these chop pictures! I'm already out of money and am not anywhere near getting the REGULAR cab work done. Any more good chop photos and I may have to revisit the chop idea

XXL, a little" shave" on the top would really put the icing on that stance! in my area, most of the shops were talking between $1200-2400 to chop & paint the top........then send me to the glass shop(ouch). I pick up a Mig, & a few air tools ,& chopped her myself. I have less than $600 in materials, including the glass& seals(windsheild & rear glass). the door glass isnt done yet,but will be a winter project. if you are patient,& can weld, you can save a bunch of cash. Good luck.....Al

Gordo, have you got any intermediate pics you care to share? And/or any progress reports on your chop project???

I'm gettin' the itch again to chop mine and thought I'd get lots of input before we bust out the Sawzall

XXL, you should pick up a copy of How to CHOP TOPS ,by Tex Smith, there are 3 different examples on our favorite truck(all done differently),plus a section on cutting glass . it was well worth the $18 I paid for it..........Al

I'll look for it. Sounds like just what I need. Funny thing is I used to routinely cut up other people's cars (and my own) without hesitation. Years ago I had a custom shop in Arlington, Texas, and I did LOTS of mild custom stuff like targa roofs and convertibles on trucks... and I was one of the pioneers of the bed cut-- both the pass through for stereo, etc., and the "what do you mean there's not enough rear axle clearance? We can poke the frame notch through the bed!" But these days, me being a prissy engineer-type, I get nervous at the prospect of actually hacking the roof of my own vehicle. (Actually cutting it off would be fun. It's getting it lined back up and put back on that is the scary part.)

Thanks for the book tip,

Kenneth

I'll agree that most of those look sick, but I don't think we are using the same terminalogy...
A mild chop looks good, nothing too radicle though.
Like this...

an otherwise nice truck...with too much chop.
There's another running around town where the d@mn blower is almost as high as the top of the cab! (no pics yet...only seen him twice)
