Custom bumpers for 4x4s

So I recently inherited my Great Grandpa's 69 GMC C2500 Custom Camper that he bought back in 1970. He served in the Army and my Grandpa who he passed the truck onto served in the Airforce. It was passed onto my Uncle who was in the Navy but unfortunately got neglected there and sat for years and someone stole parts off of it while it sat in the field. It is a huge mess right now but I'm thinking about doing a memorial for my two Grandpa's with it and converting it to a jacked up 4x4. Not going to do anything traditional with it besides restoring the body to its former glory I've been trying to find ideas for bumpers that will make it look like an indestructible military vehicle just wanting to see if anyone else has put any custom bumpers on their 67-73. Let's see what you got.

Do it my good man, Grandpa bought it for a reason, and now is the season!

Thinking I'm going to get rid of all the chrome and molding that I have left on it and do a desert tan paint and all black accents with a 4-6 inch lift after I get the K2500 suspension under it but still just getting ideas in my head even toying with the thought of a flat bed

Re: Custom bumpers for 4x4s

Keep the bumpers simple. The military would have. Square tube can be done easily. I like the 2 x 4 or 6, but 4" square might be nice. Use c-channel for brackets, put the front out a foot for a nice step to work off of, angle the ends back, and cap. Top that with diamond plate and you have a tough good looking bumper. Weld tabs for clevis hooks to dangle on front (or below) where it mounts to frame. The rear can just be a straight piece.
