Picture of factory tail pipe exit on 71ish SWB 402 anyone??

My exhaust guy would like a reference. Don't suppose it matters LWB and SWB. I'm working on a 71 SWB, 402. The pipes exit the rear sides someplace.

A picture and three measurements appreciated a lot.......

.Horizonal distance from the rear fender to tail pipe's exterior:

.Vertical distance from the rear body's bottom to tail pipe's exterior:

.Inward or outward distance from the body's bottom to tail pipe's tip:

hi Tony,i can get you some measurements tomorrow if you like.here's the new Waldron tailpipes on my 72 truck.they are the same as the originals i took off except 2 1/4 diameter pipe rather than 2 inch because i asked for them that way.everything fit right back on the factory hangers also.

Re: Picture of factory tail pipe exit on 71ish SWB anyone??

The V8 pipe exit appears to be same position as 6, which is what I have. Since Greg is sending you his measurements I will hold off. Also I used stock hangers but 2" pipe and had the shop just weld on a chrome turn down tip positioned where "I" wanted it in terms of how far in/out I wanted it so it may not be exactly stock position

Re: Picture of factory tail pipe exit on 71ish SWB anyone??

Maybe a dumb question, but did they do a single exhaust output for the SBC in these trucks? I know that was common in the sedans of that era, but unsure about the trucks.

Thanks!

not a dumb question at all.they certainly did do single exhaust for these trucks with a small block.they all didn't have duals.i worked in a muffler shop when i was a kid so i saw lots of them.recently when i did the exhaust on my truck,i contacted Walker but the answer i got back was that they no longer made the parts for our trucks.i've used Waldron's in Michigan for exhaust parts for several projects now, they still show a single exhaust system for these trucks.all the best.Greg.

Re: Picture of factory tail pipe exit on 71ish SWB anyone??

I've seen it mentioned here somewhere that trucks with small block engines only ever had single exhaust with a y-pipe. I worked on a ton of vehicles from '70 to '72, and only recall a very few dual exhaust vehicles, but no SBC trucks, and I can count on one finger a SBC 400 with dual exhaust, in an Impala. Rare bird, I guess. BBC trucks were always dual exhaust in those years, IIRC.

LMC sells a single exhaust for a 6 Cyl. Box with muffler that came with mine said Made in Michigan IIRC....don't know if it was Waldrons but system fit was good

Exhaust installed, great guy & work. 2.5" fronts and 2.25" rear. Turbo mufflers, they're pretty quiet when not broken

Sure did. Mine is a 350 with a Y pipe and single tail pipe that exits just aft of the left rear.
