suggestion on red & black interior

I have a 78 short box and looking for ideas,I can,t make up my mind on what combo would look good. I have a new black bench seat and I picked up some nice electric doors and headliner which are carmine red { i think is the name } Carpet is undecicded and the headliner need replaced so those colors can be changed. Dash is black now. Color of the truck is satin black, Couldn,t find many pictures for ideas

Re: suggestion on red & black interior

if all you have red is the door cards....i would dye them black as well.

to me, you need the red lower dash, door cards and seat as a minimum...the dash cap and carpet can stay black.

i went full on red

Re: suggestion on red & black interior

I could paint the lower dash but I thought the dash normally was body color. Headliner was a carmine red as well. I wish I had red inserts in the seat

Re: suggestion on red & black interior

if the color is what i think it is, i would be sourcing a good 88-98 bench seat with the velour.

that will help tie it in, but an all black seat kinda hurts.

Re: suggestion on red & black interior

nice interior Rick....
i dont think there is any question of red and black looking good.

it is whether the red door card will look good with the remianing or majority being black.

what i vision is less than desireable.

Re: suggestion on red & black interior

I can see now as someone mentioned, if there is no red in the seat it just doesn,t tie in with the rest of the interior.

Can you post some pics of your interior, like your seat that you have now and then the door panels that you just got.

I was just wondering what your door panels looked like, if they were correct for the 78, or if you were using the 81-87 style panels with the fabric insert. If you were using the 81-87 panels. You could always keep them Carmine and have the insert black. And also, if you were going to use the lower carpet on the door? There is someone that custom makes these. They can be Carmine with an embossed Black bow tie, or vise versa. They look like this, and you can choose whatever colors you want. But it hard to visualize when we can’t see what you have.

Re: suggestion on red & black interior

they are like this with red carpet. I haven,t hung the doors yet as they are electric and I have drill holes for the bellows. Headliner is clean and ready for new headliner but was not sure on the color until I could decide if I could make a red and black interior work. The seat is like this but was installed in my blazer to see how it looked with the red doors panels

Re: suggestion on red & black interior

So since you are using the 81-87 style door panels, then at least you could make the fabric insert black and maybe even the armrest.

Re: suggestion on red & black interior

what about the headliner red or black.I haven,t bought the material yet. I have a hard visualizing the color scheme .I think I know where your going with this ,just use a little bit of red for a accent color. I wish Martha Stewart was here.

Just an idea:
Keep your seat black.
Door panels Carmine Red with black inserts, and maybe even black armrest. And if you use a pull strap for the door, it can be Black also.
Carmine Red headliner with Black Visors.
All your plastic trim could be Carmine also.
Your Dash could remain Black. They normally match the panels, but not always. Like a Saddle interior, everything is Light Saddle, but the dash is Dark Saddle. It would not hurt to have a black dash with Carmine Red Door Panels, especially if you use black to highlight the panels.
What color are your seatbelts?

Re: suggestion on red & black interior

If it helps, to visualize. I’m cleaning & detailing a TransAm with Red & Black interior. I know it’s a TransAm and not a truck, and there’s more Red than Black, but I think you’ll be fine mixing Red & Black.

Re: suggestion on red & black interior

Lots of good thought here and some really nice interiors. I'll admit up front that my personal opinions with these trucks tend toward lower dollar, using what you have, and still presentable solutions. What color is the lower dash (metal part)?

The way I could see using the materials you've acquired is like this: if you went with black carpet I could see a U-shape of black flowing dash to carpet to seat. And an upside-down east-west U-shape of red flowing door to headliner to door. All-black Interiors are sharp, but in a all black truck, I think it's worth considering putting the red to use.

It could also work to recover the headliner in black and go with red door panels and red carpet. That would have a nice visual punch as well. Keep us posted.

I would leave the bottom of the dash black. I believe it wouldn’t look right, if it was red, and doesn’t match the exterior of the truck.

Re: suggestion on red & black interior

I agree with TKCR on keeping the underdash black. And the more I think about it you could do a red carpet. That way all of the background surfaces are red and the mounted objects, e.g. the seat and dashboard are black. That would look nice. It would look purposeful. And the only thing you would need to dye might be the visors unless you have those in red.
