Re: pictures wanted of clearance/roof lights

The best place to find clearance light roof panels are to look for the bigger trucks c40 and up. Trevor

My 1970 has the firemans hat lenses. Does this mean the original owner put different ones on as it has factory cab light holes/roof design?

No,I think they're original. Maybe some '70s came with the '69 style, but all the '70s I've seen or owned had the later style. If you look on the lens Guide put 69 for the first year produced. That leads me to think that, possibly, some of the last '69s may have come with the later style.

Re: pictures wanted of clearance/roof lights

Should the factory ones be GM? My 72 has the big half chrome ones but they are made by Grote, aftermarket? My 70 has the same as Special-K.

Does the spacing vary from year to year? The 70 has the outside two at the edge and the three in the middle close together. The 72 are almost evenly spaced.

Factory lenses were made by Guide. Grote would be a replacement/accessory company. They are very common. Your '72 had generics added. Ford always spaced evenly, contrary to GM and about any other ICC-legal truck I've seen. The 67/68s didn't have the pods and the lamps were not yet required. So,those could be placed wherever. But,all the 69-72s had a roof panel with raised areas that were all spaced with the typical 3 center and 2 outer arrangement. They were all made the same.

Re: pictures wanted of clearance/roof lights

So 69-72s had a raised roof panel. What are we talking about 1/2,3/4,1 ton or bigger?I take it if the truck didnt have a roof poods that truck didnt come with lights.

Special-K, what style is that light that you are holding? Is there a base for it?Or does it mount directly to the roof?Oh and I know what you mean about the RAIN! I was in it sence 11pm last night.

Any pictures of these different ones?

This thread may be useful for the locations, it shows measurements from the windshield to place the lights in what I assume is the stock location.

Re: pictures wanted of clearance/roof lights

The light I showed is the 70-72 style they call the fireman's hat. They are the same lens used through '87 on C/Ks and '91 on V/Rs. They sat on a rubber base. Any 69-72 truck with the factory clearance lamps would have the raised pods.

The lights were required for over 10,000# trucks, which were dual wheel.

Re: pictures wanted of clearance/roof lights

Heres some info and a few part numbers for ya. The hockey puck style is no longer available and the firemans hat style is still made by Signal Stat under the part #1313a, this part has the correct lens but the base is different than the factory GM version, these work great if your adding the lamps to a cab that didnt have them to begin with as they come with a lamp socket and wiring pigtail. If your replacing the lights on a truck that have the pucks then you just need the lens and the GM rubber insulaters, these have a special socket built into them to hold the lamp holder and a boss on the bottom to seal into the cab.
I believe the cab lights used on the 67-68 trucks were made for GM by Yankee but there is a Grote model that is very close.

Re: pictures wanted of clearance/roof lights

It took me a while to find some new fireman cap style lenses. I looked online but couldn't find them, then I went to a local "big rig" store and they had some by TruckLite for 8 bucks a piece, so $40 for a new set of lenses. The design in the plastic is a little different and updated, but they fit the bases like they are supposed to. Will sure look better than the old faded and cracked factory lenses that are on my 1970 CST/10 now.
