I'd really like to see pics of 'burbs and panels hauling.

I really want a panel or a burb but it can't be a toy for me, it has to work. May I see your pics of yours working for you?

Re: I'd really like to see pics of 'burbs and panels hauling.

Well, I guess I can toss up a pic of my burb hauling. And for the record, the 63 was only on the trailer because I moved from SD to ND and I can only drive one at a time.

It had also hauled a few fullsize trucks to part out, and a few project cars I bought that didn't run, and a small bobcat a time or two.

I should have taken a pic last week with the Burb's interior loaded with 10 4"x4"x10', 30 2x4x8' with a couple 2x6x12's resting on the dashboard to let the back doors shut.

lowrollin70gmc....
What is in your set up? Engine, gears, tranny, and tire size? How does it work for your towing needs? I am trying to build mine up as a towing rig, but currently it is a dog. I have 350/350 with 33 ties and 3.73 gears.

Re: I'd really like to see pics of 'burbs and panels hauling.

I'm a little bit of a cheater, I run a 12 valve Cummins turbo diesel turned up a little bit backed by an nv5600 6 speed transmission, NP205 transfer case, and 3.73s turning 35" tires (I've also ran 37s on this setup). There is a link to my build thread in my signature: "The Dakota Cadillac".

It works awesome towing, I can drive a loaded trailer at 75-80mph with power to spare. I do typically slow it down to 70 to save on fuel. Empty I've averaged just under 20mpg and loaded it's given me 15/16mpg. I love the truck but it was a lot of work to put together and is still a work in progress, but it's driven great in the 2 1/2 years since I did the conversion.

I've also owned an 88 350 powered 3/4 ton truck (700R4, 4:10s, & 31s), pulled the same loads, and it isn't a comparison to the diesel. But driving at a reasonable speed it always got the job done, just not as quickly.

Here's my '67 2WD 1/2 ton, 350/4-speed (factory 327), w/HD cooling, alternator, springs, and shocks, towing my '90 Comanche to its new owner a few months ago. Don't let the "10" on the side fool you, she'll pull.

Re: I'd really like to see pics of 'burbs and panels hauling.

My 72 above (pulling the yellow boat) has a HT383/700R4 and 4.10 gears. I tows quite well with this combo, but I'd like air springs in the rear. I find they're a bit soft for towing. It doesn't tow poorly because of them, it just sags. Especially considering that the tongue weight of that boat trailer is only about 200 lbs.

Here's mine. My boat is heavy, but it doesn't sag at all. It doesn't like hills though and wobbles when I get over 55. If I can get the wobble issue figured out, I'm thinking about doing a 383 if I can afford it and convince the old lady that that is better than new carpet.

Re: I'd really like to see pics of 'burbs and panels hauling.

Taylorbg,
I put CPP sway bars front and rear and it made a HUGE difference. Rear especially. Used to wallow like a pig going down the highway. Not any more. I really recommend a rear sway bar on a burb. They are so much more top heavy in the rear compared to pickups.

Re: I'd really like to see pics of 'burbs and panels hauling.

Sway bars are next on my list. Fixing to redo the front end. Ball joints, tie rod ends, etc. Did you install the sway bars yourself? If so, how difficult was that. It is killing me to keep having to pay people to do the work for me. I just don't have the free time these days. Also, is your four wheel drive? Mine is, wonder if those work for both two wheel and four wheel.

The 4x4 sections say to get them off later trucks to save money, but then you have to fab things up to get it to work. I prefer bolt on and be done.

Re: I'd really like to see pics of 'burbs and panels hauling.

Mine is a 2wd with coil springs in the rear. I put the sway bars in myself. In concept it's just drilling a few holes and bolting it up. The trick is that the rear control arms are basically 2 c-channels welded together. The sway bar brackets are supposed to get a bolt into each c-channel. It's a squeeze getting the brackets mounted without them being a bit twisted a bit. I think CPP could do a much better job if they fabbed up a better (more custom, less generic) sway bar bracket for the control arms.
