Duramax stand alone

Looking at doing a swap into a 1961 chevy crew cab. I got a 2003 wrecked duramax/allison with about 200k. I've seen all the companies selling the stand alone harness but was wondering if anyone here has done one. I only plan on using motor. Not anything electrical from firewall back. Also read that you can convert a 4x4 tranny to 2wd. Any help would be great. Chizzler.

Re: Duramax stand alone

72Duisburg purchased one for his blurb a few years ago from PPE, and was less than impressed. I used one from a marine boat manufacturer years ago in a tractor, but I can't remember their name now. Another member on this board just did a 71 or 72 K20 with a dmax, and he used all the factory wiring on his truck. For the cost of a stand a lone harness, I'd register on Mitchell's online site and do it myself. I'll find the link for you tomorrow. It's like $16.99/month. I've used it on the last 4 trucks I've done. I get a month subscription, and print out everything I need within the month. It has part locator sections and.all kinds of info that can be helpful. Your 2wd trans can be converted by replacing the out put shaft and tail housing. (I think) I've got a 2wd a1000 from a bread truck with the park brake on the back of it. It has 3500 miles on an Allison reman. I'd sell it if you're interested. Your bell should bolt to it and you should be able to use this one's torque converter too.

Re: Duramax stand alone

It would be a bit to spend, but you'll have quite a bit of time in re-vamping your original harness. I like doing that kind of work, but finding the time to do it is what gets me anymore.

Re: Duramax stand alone

I tore apart an original harness for my lb7/allison install. Mine isn't as clean as the ones you purchase but I left alot of the wires tied up in case I decided to use some other functions later plus I didn't know how my ecm's would be mounted at the time. I can get you some pin numbers for constant hot (most orange wires) and switched hot on others (most pink wires) to get it running. As others above mentioned, I just printed off all the diagrams from Alldata and started going through circuit by circuit to see if I needed it or not.

This seems like a really reasonable cost to do this. Are you satisfied with how it turned out?

I have an 06 LLY van that I want to make standalone but I want to retain the 4L85E. Was this guy able to keep the transmission?

Re: Duramax stand alone

These harnesses are no more difficult to re-work than an LS engine is. The wiring is very similar. I'd be happy to help folks work their way through them if they want. Just shoot me a PM!
