HEI trouble

I had HEI with the six cylinder and working good. With the 350 I get it home and soon after no spark. I hook up the 6 HEI, give it a spin, and good spark. I put the 8 cap and coil on the 6 distributor and good spark. I put the module and condenser from the 6 to the 8 distributor and get a good spark and then nothing.

What in the 8 distributor could be causing it to kill the modules, or what am I doing wrong. Thanks.

I guess it was the pick up coil and the spare modules are still OK. It happened after charging the battery overnight because I had left the park lights on. It's nice to have it running again.

The pick up coils would be different between L6 and V8, but the HEI coils, modules and vacuum cannisters interchange.
I have a 292 in one truck and a 350 in the other.

Good to know that. I had gone to P n P and probably got the last distributor there that was stripped of its cap and module and weights. The junk yard was such a rip off wanting to charge me full price for it but I got it down to about half. I put my shaft and stuff into that one without touching its pick up coil and all is good. I guess the left over I can make into an oil pump priming tool, which I hope never to be in need of again.

I have the remote coil on my 292. So I found that if I ''lie'' to the parts counter guy, and say I have a '' 1975 or -76 Chevy C/10 with a 292 L6''. I get the right parts.

I have replaced the pick up in an HEI distributor. Not the most fun in the world, but you do what you gotta do.
I bought an HEI L6 coil-in-cap distributor on ebay, and it was a dud. Cheap Chinese knock-off with a bad module right outta the box. I wound up replacing all the components and modifying it to the lowboy style. The taller type interfered with the taller 292 head.
