Lift hatch with Gas shocks

Has anyone tried this yet? My wife has a heck of a time lifting the hatch on the Suburban. I thought that some gas shocks like the newer Safari or Astro vans might work but heavier.

I'm sure you can make it work. I know that the ones on my mitsubishi would work, I have to almost lean on that hatchback to get it to close!
