If i go look at those what casting number should i look for ?

Also if i go with the pace is it good stuff ? Never order from them before , I assume its not gmperformace heads thats why im wondering


Its funny i keep going back and forth on this project because i have to change out my valve covers ect. and the adapter is like 150 so might as well just buy new ones. Funny how a simple $500 project always ends up costing way more

They are 320.00 through Scoggins Dickey Cheverolet....I always go to the local stealership and tell them my mom works for the Subregional Uaw Union Hall in K.C. it gets me employee discount. She has not worked there for 15 years but they never check....good for 10-15% off

10239906 casting has one large single hump.
12558062 casting has 3 small humps.
If either of these two castings have not been altered by GM and the part number changed from 12558060 or altered by someone else (previous owner, etc.), the heads produced by either casting will be identical except for the external cosmetic difference. Both castings are used to make the 12558060 Vortec heads which are the true unaltered Vortec heads.
Heads from both castings come out of their cast IDENTICAL except for the minor cosmetic external differences!!!!!!!!
I built 2 limited late model dirt track engines with 906's last year, and one them powered the car to 7 feature wins. Some of the 906's that came on 2500's and 3500 HD's had a hardened exhaust seats installed instead of being flame hardened like the other 906's and 062's, and it is a little smaller than on the 060's and 062's, but on a flowbench the numbers are so minimal that you'd never know it in power production. If someone is still worried about it, a simple bowl blend makes them flow the same. The hardened seat 906 is actually a better head than any of them for racing because the hardened seat was installed because some of the Vortecs were cracking around the valve in extreme use in heavy duty trucks. A Jan '03 article by Chevy Hi-Performance started the "avoid the 906" craze, but it circulated as fact.

BTW, If anyone has any those useless, wretched 906's that they won't use, let me know and I'll PM you my address and shipping money!

You really don't need to run roller rockers unless you are running a high lift cam. Keep the stock rockers and spend the money on a good dual plane aluminum manifold, (Edelbrock Performer, Weiand, to name a few).

Plus you would need a new manifold should you switch to Vortec heads.

You don't mention what you are going to be running the motor in, (blazer, Suburban, C 10, 4X4, or?). Is this going to be your daily driver, or just a weekend warrior fun truck?

It is hard to recommend a set of heads, until you know how the vehicle is going to be used.
If it's a light truck, then you can run heads that make more hp and torque in the higher RPM range. If you have a heavy truck, (such as my 3/4 ton heap), then you will be better off with low RPM torque.
It all depends on what your plans are.

The diference is the hardened exaust seats, not the appearance, while I have not ran Vortecs and have not had experience with the two castings, I am sure the difference in performance would be minimal if even noticable...but there is a difference.

Yes, there is a difference, but there's no reason to avoid the 906's. That's all I was saying. Both are great heads. If anything, the 906 would be the better head in terms of durability while still performing great. That's why dirt trackers love the 906.

I guess if there is a lot of circle dirt roads in Cypress go with the 906.
