Re: Boppa's old yeller truck

Had a busy late night- lets see. Cleaned up the shop and emptied coolers from the fourth. Got the bad hood taken next door. Scraped the last of the old insulation off the firewall inner. Por'ed last night, seam sealed the last funky spot tonight in and out. Got the fenders out of the shed and skim coated them and got them in prime. Feels like progress, and it better be, since the 21st is now the hard date for paint! Oy vey!

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck

Got on it last night- 80 blocked the first round of G2. Re shot, 150 tonight, hopefully that finishes out. Boppa snagged a replacement hood last night. Might get a 68 and cut 'em up if I feel ballsy later on. Onward!

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck

Well, I was supposed to be off to go on a float trip, but it fell through. I had put in for the time off work, so I took Friday off anyway. Got a lot done, including the big buy for the main paint job! Saturday was a big day, got a lot of yellow on, like the core support, door and hood hinges, etc. Boppa, Uncle Matt and Neighbor Jay came over and GOT IT ON! All the cab stuff is switched over and it runs and drives. The core support was also installed with the battery box. I worked from 9 in the am until 1130 that night. The bed was also reinstalled for test fit. Lots of stories, but here's a few pics.

This is our new old hood to replace the original hood that got killed between blasting and handling. Tried this and it worked pretty well, just have the blaster do the underbraces and deal with the rest the old fashioned way, 80 grit on a DA pad and a drill. Worked out great.

Me and Boppa at the end of the day. Yes, I was tired. But look behind me, I DROVE it into the garage. In fact, I drove it over to Neighbor Donnie's and stashed it tonight!

Got the hood 150 blocked and primed 2x today and the fenders completed today. Hopefully getting cut in tomorrow. Cab and bed fit aint great, cab is about 1/2 in. lower, we'll have to space it up or sumpthin'. All eyes on next Friday, we'll be at paint, then we can kinda relax a bit.

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck

Looks Good . I started earile on saturday around 7am an had it ready an all taped up by 12.
I should of waited till the next morning as the temp was 87 an rising !
but wanting to get it done as this ol truck has taken a ton of my time I kept going .
every thing went good until the clear kote , it was literally drying almost as fast as it was hitting the surface , an left a haze in the clear that can't be buffed out.

it was about 4:00 when I finished an the temp outside was 95 an I felt like a french fry .. didn't know it at the time but the guy that sold me the clear activator sold me fast temp instead of slow ..

I would show pic's but still pissed about it . my paint was ppg 9300 blk an the clear was Euro star Xtrem klear coat high solids 6101 , activator 6102 fast should of been a 6104 slow... what will you use on the old yellow truck for paint an clear ??

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck

Ok it's been a helluva interesting week or so. Boppa and I got all the cut ins on the front clip done, got the clip hung and got ready to go. Friday I got off at 1100, and got ready to go. We got the truck loaded with all the parts, and got up to Uncle Matt's shop around 4 and got unloaded and ready for Sat. Sat. Am we got there about 8 and got to DA'ing the body down. We even had Tony the Painter come in and help us a bunch! (Thanks Tony! Bad Azz Firebird you have too!) We did the cab and bed first and then did all the extra yellow parts after. We sent Boppa and the kid home about 1115, Matt and I finished up about 1:45. We were back by 9 Sunday, re-shot the hood, prepped and shot the bedliner and loaded and cleaned the shop and were back at the house by 8 Sunday night. Took till 1115 to clean the shop and return the trailer, but it's in! Ran out of bedliner stuff, but it was well over 100 in the booth and it was gelling in the gun, lost about half of it. What a mess! Got some spots to fix and a good bit of sanding to do, but it looks pretty good, even to the pros. Like I said, I'm a so-so painter but a REAL GOOD polisher, so as loong as I can get it on in decent shape, I'm cool! Today was the interesting part. Boppa has a good heart, but crappy internal plumbing. He had a quintuple bypass in '99, and has been getting Stents and balloonings about every 12-18 months since. He's been having a rough couple months, and knew he was due for another rodding out. He went in the hospital this morning, because he wanted to see the truck get to paint. He made it through pretty good, had 3 95% blockages and one 60% blockage. They got all but one open and the one they had to leave goes to a minor artery, so not bad. He has so many stents, his heart looks like it's in a cage. He's literally bulletproof! He's cooling his heels in the hospital tonight, and will be home in the AM and rollin' low the rest of the week. Good thing, 'cause it's gone over to RIDICULOUSLY hot. 111 on the truck therm at about 5 today. Oy. Vey. Well, here's some pics-

Thanks, lite! Not a hangar, my brother is the shop manager for a bodyshop north of town and was nice enough to get us in for the weekend. Thanks for the props!

Everyone seems to! Odd, it was kind of an afterthought, it was just lying there on the motor and we were gonna shoot a bunch of small stuff anyway. I like it too.
