Thanks. I got the dash back in and hooked up some old 56 Chevy horns to it today. They will hear the horn when it blow's!
I ordered a 112" speedometer cable also today for it. It showed 2 listings for a 68 truck so I got the longest one since I put the 700-R4 in it.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Productive day in the garage. It was 40* when I got up so I moved the 68 into the garage. Lot nicer to work inside warm than outside in the cold. I did do some work out side though.

I got both inner fenders installed. I had to clean the drivers side up first. I wire brushed it the primered then painted it. I got new tail lights installed as well.

I got the wiring finished up on the internal regulator and cover on. No more external regulator.
I didn't use the jumper wires, I took the brown wire straight to the alternator. Took the red wire off the old regulator and ran it straight to the new alternator.
Much cleaner and less connections to go bad. I used the Buick alternator with 94amps.

I installed a oil filler tube also.

I have both door mirrors on the way also.

Later I'll do the head light relays.

Re: Daughters 68 step...

So she's rolling with no AC? Or is that to come later? You mentioned possibly a wood flatbed for it. I thought you'd probably go with a short wheel base stepside since it was originally a stepper. Does your daughter have any preferences for her truck? Did you decide against the 60/40 seat?

As for right now no AC but I have the pulleys installed so when I do add it though. It will either be a Classic air system are a under dash unit. I'm looking real hard for a GM under dash unit for my ramp truck now but not had any luck.

Yea I had thought about a wood flat bed but not going to happen. I'm suppose to be going in the morning to look at a stepper for it complete. The weather here is not cooperating at all though. We are under freezing rain & snow today had bad storms all week long with flooding. The bed is 3hrs away so I'm not sure when I will go. My daughter has her input on all of it but I'm the one buying it so I have final say!

As for the seat I had the 60/40 but it was so nasty I gave up on it. The drivers seat was fine but the passenger side was so nasty it just wasn't going to clean up well enough to use. The more I cleaned on it the worse it looked. It just kept smearing into it.
Right now the original is in it but I went this past week and got a full bench out of a 91 like my ramp truck. I taking it to have the cleanup shop get it ready. I'm hoping he can do a better job than I did on the other one.
I may have to recover it but for the price I got it for I can't complain. Time will tell.

Re: Daughters 68 step...

You know I’ve not heard of anyone shortening a long step box. Single wall and flat sides should be a easy quick deal provided the long panels are decent. Measure cut drill holes pretty much. No splicing?

Yes there are a couple of threads on here about doing it. I had thought of doing it until I found the bed I'm getting for $450.00 with a good tailgate to.
This thread talks about it the way I had decided to do it. Make the center cut in the bed and the fenders would cover it up for the most part.

Got the exhaust done this morning and I cut the bulk connection out of the wiring harness and put a fender stud mount on the radiator support. I now have 12 volts to tie into for head light relays and any thing else I may need later on.

What are you going to use for an antenna, or are you running without a radio?

Thanks, this isn't going to be any kind of shinny show truck, just a nice everyday driver. I've never done this much work to a truck like this but over the past 30 some years on here reading and following directions of everyone I felt as though I could handle it. So far so good. My good friend Bill who's shop he let me use up until Jan 31,2020 was a blessing.

Well I started pulling the old cab sealer out today and got it all cleaned up to install the new sealer tomorrow. Wire brushed it good and have it wiped down. My friend is going to let me barrow his double gun to do the 2 part sealer. Hope it all goes well.
First time the truck has been out side in the sun light.

Ok I pulled it back out and wiped it down good with mineral spirits this afternoon. Let dry good and while I was letting it dry I cleaned the hood and windows up.
Took the mineral spirits on a rag to the hood. Made a world of a difference. I'll do the top after a few day to let the sealer dry good. The sealer isn't perfect but it should keep the water out.
I hope!!!!!

Went to Canton Ga today and picked up a short step bed from member Flashed.
Good meeting you finally John.
Hope we can do some more trading in the future.
7hr round trip wasn't bad.
Got to do some cleaning up and some minor repair work but it should be a good match for the truck.

Went by the transmission shop that built the 700-R4 for me. Asked about wiring up the torque converter. They told me all I needed was the 4 prong connector that goes on the side of the transmission and a brake light switch for cruise. Put 12 volts to it and it will lockup in 4th anytime it's over 45MPH. The brake switch will knock it off also. I also ran a toggle switch so I can manually turn it off if not needed.
