Sluggish and clanging

I was examining the carburetor to check the choke, its not activating, and pulled some of the triggers and switches on the carb to see what was going on. I cleaned the carb body with carb gumout, had to stop there b/c i'm not sure of the location of the additional cleaning points.

The next day while driving, I noticed that she was sluggish in all gears. Then it started with a light, deep clanging. Not very loud. But deep, like chimes, or straight pipes. I'm not 100% certain about the sound coming from the pipes, but I'm not dragging anything.

I'm equipped with a TH350 and an Edelbrock 1406 on top of a Performer RPM Manifold.

Does this sound like the carb? If so, since I know almost zilch about something like an Edelbrock, where is a good source for doing it myself? Or do I just take it to a pro and watch/learn from him?

Clanging makes me think of bigger things than a carb... esp when the engine is also running slow.
you checked the oil level lately?
How about the coolant?
Will it idle on it's own once it's warmed up?
Any smoke or steam out the tail pipe(s) that wasn't there a week ago?

never known a carb to make an clanging sounds with lornhorn sounds like something bigger

When I say bigger... I think of rods and cranks not having a bearing in between the two... which ios gear head talk for... Big Visa Bill. (or dirt cheap junk yard motor)

Question What triggers and switches are on a 1406? If you pulled the electric choke off or any of the rods on the outside and didn't get them back on correctly then the choke plate or secondarys might be slapping.
So did you pull anything? Hoses front or back rods either side?

In terms of switches, I was activating the choke and throttle, not removing parts or rods. As for the sound, the clanging is very gentle, not at all loud, more like a knocking. I called it clanging, b/c it sounds like a gentle knock to a pipe or chime. The motor starts fine, considering that the choke isn't really working, and it stays running. The fluids are level, and the exhaust looks good. May be a job for a real mechanic!

I do have a vacuum leak in my brake sys, so maybe thats stressing the engine at idle.

The clanging: the weather chrome trim strip that from the windshield gasket. The windshield repair guy that came out yesterday partially removed this before deciding that he couldn't do the job and left it out of the gasket channel. While driving around last night, the corner piece fell off (grrrrr) and now the chrome strip is bumping against the windshield making a light clanging noise. It was dark when I was looking at her last night, so I didn't see this.

The sluggishness may have been my imagination or may have been due to colder temps around here, but she's back to her regular self today. Thanks for the tips and sorry to waste y'alls time.

Now I have to find a corner piece for that chrome strip; Manes says they probably have some spares, but I need to come up with other things to order.
