Re: Cars Today Are Not Modern

I just put brand new tires on my 2010 ford fusion. 2.5 4 cylinder. 235,000 miles. It feels like it did at 60k miles. What a great car it's been. I think some modern stuff is really light years ahead of the old stuff. But of course they still all have the pontiac Aztec syndrome. That will never go away. Diamonds in the rough surrounded by junk basically is how I look at newer stuff. Most of it is designed to fall but some things newer really are well built and so much better.

Yeah but just think how much better defensive driving would be. You'd have the option of flying over or under the fool, not just left or right. Stopping I still see as an issue
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I see some of you are still not convinced that cars today are not modern at all. Designers of the '50s and '60s would be very disappointed. Info-center in the center of the dash... pfft. Big deal, just a gimmick. These cars today just take you up and down the road same as a Model-T. Hopefully seeing more examples will convince the nay-sayers

Your trying to make the case that a map is better than gps. Your not going to win that argument.

You seem to have no sense of humor. But I could argue and win on the map vs GPS debate if you'd like to get into that. I've never had a map steer me into a building. For every added modern convenience a drawback can be found. Choose your poison.

Re: Cars Today Are Not Modern

The one big thing I like about what we put on cars today compared to yesteryear is the

Tires ,,no more flats to speak of no more sticking boots into them tires and no more having to drive your car over a flat tire to break the bead to take the innertube out to patch the darn thing .. this is probably more of a oxímoron of "Cars Today are not More Modern" or maybe not?

Lol. Clearly you have never worked in a major metro area. Do you look at your map as you drive? Haha. My sense of humor is alive and well. Good luck with that map if you ever find yourself in a big city.

Re: Cars Today Are Not Modern

Special k thinks he is smarter than he is. That's a very bad trait in people. We see it all the time nowadays. Everybody thinks they have it figured out. Very ugly and a destructive line of thinking. Like I say. If he wants to argue, then tell me how good that map works in the big city. Explain that to me. Do you read the map while you drive? Do you pull over and make notes? How does it work exactly?

I enjoyed reading this thread and would like to see it remain cordial.
Something the world needs more of right now is extending grace to others.
I’m including myself in that.
It’s not a big deal.

Hmm , modern
Don't you think the ash trays that sucked your butts up into a jar on the firewall was state of the art , not even an ash tray in cars today.
What about the wonder bar radio , not so complicated was it ???
Who wouldn't like to have the slide away steering column today ???
Gps , the compass on the dash always seem to work.

Re: Cars Today Are Not Modern

Please stop posting in this thread if you can't find that live and well sense of humor you so obviously are having a difficult time finding. Your posts are not at all with the drift of this thread. Just look at the first post, flying atomic powered cars to make my point? ha ha? Funny maybe?

What was it you do for a living? You must be some sort of psychologist to have me so well analyzed. You seem to have been analyzing me from long before this thread to come to your conclusion. You are correct I put a lot of thought into things, and part of that is reflection upon myself. The things I 'feel' I have figured out are my rightful thoughts and I don't push them on others. I don't know if I'm smarter than anyone else or not. I don't compare. Yes, sometimes it's obvious... for anyone. I will never let the mass mentality do my thinking for me. You figure out what is best for you and what you feel is best for all. I'm about the third option. There's more than either/or and if/then. I look for other perspectives to view than just mine. There is a grey area in most everything. Not much absolute in the world.

If you care to have a conversation over my issues or an adult level discussion on modern vs what always worked before, then feel free to start your own thread. This thread is about the ridiculous so called modern concepts for the future from the past.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, change of perspective here. It's not hard to look back on the jet and atomic ages to find some wacky "futuristic" concepts. How about from this point, with our ever so modern cars, looking forward? This is Rolls Royce. I wonder about a 2035 Kia

Re: Cars Today Are Not Modern

for conversation sake, not argument, my Dad had to get to downtown Minneapolis once for Dr. Appt. mid to late 1980's. he could not read. but he new that if he took e90 to 35n he could get to edge of the Big Town. on edge of big town he asked a gas station clerk to call a taxi. he probably asked her or him nicely so they would get it done. anyhow, when taxi showed up my Dad said he paid the drive to be able to follow him downtown to Hospital. he said he paid another driver to get him back to 35s.,...all pre high tech in whatever he was driving at the time.

I went to an ACDC concert in Twin Cities Nov. 81, my high school girlfriend had moved back to Edina. she gave me simple instruction on how to get to her house and I found it, anyhow, by the time we went to concert we were both higher than a mountain goat so I just listened to her tell me how to drive there. 73 Plymouth, my Mom's car. some peoples kids, I tell ya.

What year did Cadillac introduce self-dimming headlamps? I would love to have a swing away steering column. It takes a good hour to remove mine

Harley Earl ran that LeSabre around as his personal vehicle. He was mighty pleased with that creation of his own. I like almost all of it. The rest I wouldn't care about if I could own it and drive it

See? Told you so!

Stupid internet bullcrap. One thing that really bugs me about it. I posted this because of the car shown with all the headlights that looks like it's a hovercraft. So where is it? Not even shown in the stinkin' video. I'd like to smack the weasel who posted this. Oh well, I'm not deleting it
