Could not leave out my homeboy Tomas's Hearst. I see some 20's with an evil paint job with a high horsepower diesel enging to smoke the tires.

Re: SoCal checkin' in

I had a great time, met some new truckers and we had alot of trucks show up this time. Had some great food and met up with family/friends later in Pico Rivera.

Now the bad news; I think I fried some rings and by the time I got home the bed of my truck was dripping with oil. I'm out for the rest of the year with this problem. Hopefully I will be up and running by next years CPP meet.

See you guys next year!

Dano

Damn sux to hear dano! That makes my starter problem seem like nothing. Why would your rings go? Old motor? No oil pressure?

I think it's; (old motor) + (freeway) + (extended "high" rpms) + (no overdrive tranny) = disaster!

Dano, I have that 283 shortblock sitting around doing nothing, all you have to do is say the word.

Thanx VDog! I do have a 307 and 350 sitting in the garage. I'll have to check them both out. If they are garbage then I'll be sure to take you up on your offer. I'm sure I can use the 307 heads on your 283.

As with anything, it is really a question of time and money. I don't have either right now.

I'll have to wait until my Christmas vacation before I can tear into this job.

Re: SoCal checkin' in

So bad news for me too. Just spent 3 hours working on my starter in the parking lot i the sun. Now my truck wont even start. Really feel that the flywheel is done and the gear on the starter is wlrn out from grinding the flywheel. So i had to leave the 64 at work. Luckyily my boss let me borrow kne of hks cars. Now my plan is to pull the th350 and chaange the flywheel again!!!! if i find a engine /tranny thats together may just do that. Sux because im going to maui next month and have been saving for vacation money. Gonna have to dip into that to get the parts i need. Remember tjis is my daily driver. Wish me luck because i gotta do this asap

Re: SoCal checkin' in

Was talking to a buddy of mine, he was thinking the fly wheel could be warpped. Also thinking like me, your guide pins could be tweeked or the holes the pins go into could be out of round. Also we should run the engine numbers to see exactly what year your 350 is. I know people say everything fits on these engines, but actually they dont. Some have little differences and when you change something it affects other things. For instance, I have to use a long water pump from a 74 350 engine because of my pulleys. would have never know, but due to trial and error, and someone else who saw the problem I got it right.
Try Craigslist to see if you can find something.

Re: SoCal checkin' in

Im gonna pull the tranny this weekend and i may decide to just pull the motor too .but if i pull the motor its gonna open big can of worms. Ill have to paint the engine.engine compartment cill some hole kn the firewall. Maybe i wont pull the motor because i need to be back on the road by monday. I know theres number on the back of tbe motor on top wherer the bellhousinv bolts up. But couldnt get the numbers off last time. Gonna investigate more, i really wanna swap the tranny too beca
use its shift points are no good for the street. The flywheel was new tci flywheel i installed in april.

Re: SoCal checkin' in

You know I was talking about the dowel holes. Heres another idea, if it is the dowel holes, just change the bell housing. I had that happen to me when I changed my engine on my 76 Capri. The 2.8 engine was the same one in a pinto, but the bell housing was different. I blew a clutch every 4 days for 3 weeks. then went to a trans shop and found out it was a difference. One more thing, did your torque convertor give you the 3 clicks when you pushed and turned it? You know so it sits flushed inside the trans? I have one more person to talked to, he works at Rotex in Gardena, they sell rebuilt starters, alternators, etc etc. I want to see what he thinks.
