Re: tilly to the rescue

got good news guys...
tilly is alive again. she was recently revived with a dose of funding. so, we're back at it. promise to post up pics of progress soon, but i am tickled be on it.

yesterday i went over to westville in oklahoma and picked up another utility bed truck. this one is extra nice... still in original paint with a factory bed. it has lots of options and was a steal.

heres a few pics from when i drove it home.

Ex-Custom Camper truck. Must've lead another, more scenic life at one point. Any history on it?

PS: No, the orange engine is not correct.

Re: tilly to the rescue

I'm thinking that the listing for "Engine Conversion" might explain the orange engine. Even though it shows the truck as having originally came from the factory with a 327, the engine in it may not be the original engine. Checking the suffix code on the block would verify that.

I suppose that it is also possible that the dealer pulled the original engine, made some changes to it at the customers request and reinstalled the engine after a paint job. I'm just not sure what the "Engine Conversion" would entail.

the truck has 2 auxiliary tanks, 1 on each side located in the front cabinets of the bed. i bought the truck from the second owner and he believed that this is the factory engine. the clock shows 79,000 miles which could be real. all the missing air parts are in the bed cabinets and that makes me think something was perhaps done to the engine.

i will definitely check the vin and date codes on the engine, as well as the box of receipts. i thought that 'engine conversion' might mean that a car motor was installed from the factory. it was built in california according to the build sheet.
don't know much else yet but i sure love a mystery.

Re: tilly to the rescue

I am asking more than adding a comment about the engine conversion.

Since the SPID notes the "Z20EA Engine Conversion", would that mean that it was done at the factory and not at the dealer? Or were the SPID's applied by the dealer back then? Could the Z20EA option be dealer installed parts that were shipped with the truck from the factory?

Let us know what you find out on this....

I believe the "Engine Conversion" refers to emission equipment applied at the factory for CA trucks.

date code is right for truck 'june 65'. the vin is not on the front block ledge, it reads 'MK20 800" which is weird. there is not a crankcase vent in back, which may be the 'pos vent' on the spid. the truck has a 4 barrel carb that i don't think the normal 327 option had. and no paper work on a dealer installed engine. so, the mystery continues... po said this is the original motor to this truck.

you're probably right on the emission parts though the manifolds have definitely been changed.

the fragrance industry needs to copy that smell and sell it as a womens perfume. it would attract car guys better than that flowery smell they now use.
thanks murph and glad you're back. following your escapades...
