Punched in the face.

Hello all.

This is my first ever squarebody and also the first time working on one.

Here we go.

I picked up this dually yesterday for cheap moneys and am pretty stoked about it.

Here it is when we loaded up, this was a super fun sketch trip. 45 mph the whole way, turned a 20 min drive into an hour. Good times.

Got it home and unloaded, barely squeezes in my side driveway here.

It took a pretty good punch in the face, not sure how it happened and the dude I got it from bought it this way.

Good news is it came with some replacement parts in a matching faded as **** white.

The interior is stock and full of original dirt/dust.

I apologize for the picture quality of this next one, but my phone does not like low light situations. I started taking the front end apart because having a wrecked truck in my driveway isn't cool but in pieces is cool.

So that was the end of yesterday.

Clean it up, recover the seats, throw a camper on it, air ride.

Nothing too crazy really.

Re: Punched in the face.

Cool. I take it the frame is OK? That looks like it took a pretty good hit.

Yeah looks it caught most of the damage above the bumper on the right. The frame rail looks to be pretty untouched which was nice. Trying to get that straightened out would've been a pain in the ass.

Re: Punched in the face.

Got the front end pulled apart. Word of advice, do not attempt to move your truck if your tranny cooler is disconnected. Good times.

Got the core support on and just threw the fender and hood on to get a sense of accomplishment. We're getting there guys.

Re: Punched in the face.

I also received my 9 gallon, bags, and front bag plates. Still need to get the rear brackets, notch, tubing, and whatever else I can't think of.

Once I get the front end together, I'll be able to start on the suspension stuff.

Re: Punched in the face.

I think those are the coolest looking dually trucks out there. Looks like a nice project. Good color too.

Thanks, yeah I'm a fan of the white, hoping I can buff it out a little.

Re: Punched in the face.

Got some time over Christmas weekend to do a little bit of work on it.

Got the front fender, hood and cowl back on.

Need to source some hardware for the headlights and also a passenger side headlight/signal trim piece.

Did drive it around the block though, need to add more trans fluid, and anyone know what temperature it's supposed to be at?

Thanks, I wish I was moving a little quicker though.

I did manage to get new tires on it and drove it to and from the tire shop.

Little bit of motivation there.

Re: Punched in the face.

Got the front end put back together, still need a front bumper and a passenger side light surround.

Old spindle vs new.

Cut the bump stop bracket bs off.

Got the top mount mocked up, and that's as far as I got. Although I did do both sides.

Re: Punched in the face.

Nice work bringing that old truck back to life. My dad has an old squarebody dually that I grew up with so I love these trucks even though I have no practical need or room for one.

Re: Punched in the face.

Worked on it until late last night to hammer the front out since I needed to move the truck back to my other driveway.

This weekend, plan on taking the wheels back off and cleaning the crap out of under there and throw some paint on it.

Here it is at about 130 psi. Higher than it was when I got it.

Here it is aired out. Tires are hitting the fenders so need to trim those.

Re: Punched in the face.

So turns out my lower brackets let the bag sit up too high.

I got some short cups that I'm going to install on the bottom and hopefully get another 3" or so out of it.

Re: Punched in the face.

For reference, I run mine @ about 95/105psi for my ride height (26" @ C/L of front fender opening; BBC, th400, 3" spindles, 1.5" raised/notched x-member, Firestone bags & PB 1" forward lower arms).

Thanks, 1" forward lowers? I'll have to look into this. I'm assuming to center the wheel up in the well?
