Re: Papa's 67 step side (aka ANOTHER porterbuilt prison)

I know this might be jumping to far ahead but if someone that is running the same set up as me might be able to help. So i am running Porterbuilt dropmember (will lay frame) and run about 5" ride height. Two piece drive shaft and a LS1 Engine with 4L60e Auto Transmission. I don't want to purchase the engine yet (money/warranty issues) but i want to continue on the rear end.. ie.. weld on bag mounts and such. In doing so i need the pinion angle of the rear diff and i assume somebody would know if they are running the same set up..If anybody can help me out that would be great..

Nice '67.
Wish my '68 was that nice to start with I would have been doing the happy dance, but instead I was saying Its cheap so what the hell why not, believe me when I say "Its cheap so why the hell not" Isnt where you want to start. You got the better end of the stick on this one.

I don't have dimensions for you, but a quick word of advice. Go to a local bone yard and get an LS Engine and 4L60. If you call around and search enough, you can come up with a blown engine and junk tranny that will be cheap. I'm talking a couple hundred bucks total. You can even check with local garages and tranny shops for stuff beyond repair. It just has to bolt up and take up space. It will be money well spent. That way you don't have to fork out the real money till you're ready. So many things affect another just going by dimensions will eventually get you in a bind. Ask me how I know? The project looks great, keep up the good work!

So between kids softball and NFL i got a little bit done this weekend.. High hump installed and PD hood hinges finished..Both of which went smooth unlike every other thing on this truck.

Re: Papa's 67 step side (aka ANOTHER porterbuilt prison)

Did you put any sealer on the high hump, and if so, what kind?
That's the same color mine was, along with every other one I looked at. Strange.

What happened in the rear? It looked like things didn't line up there.

First was i had to move the trailing arm cross member forward towards front of truck. Then (because laying frame with a stepper) i had to change from outer bag mounts to inner bag mounts for clearance issues (which i still think i might have). Live and learn
