67 Chevy C20 CST - The Replacement

It's been awhile since I've posted here and then my 69 C20 got stolen. Kinda bummed about that since I had done quite a bit of work to it but time to move on. I picked up this one a few weeks ago, I was just looking for a nice driver/work truck that was one color and found this. I guess I lucked out, for once.

Re: 67 Chevy C20 CST - The Replacement

Thanks. From what I have been able to figure out so far it appears to be a mostly complete original with the exception of the engine which is a 350 out of a 74 car of some sort.

Here is what is on the SPID.

C42 Deluxe Heater/Air
G50 HD Rear Spring
L30 327 Engine
U15 Speed Warning
Z53 Gauges
B98 Side Trim
F59 Sway Bar
K24 Closed Eng Pos Vent
M49 Trans
U63 Radio
Z84 CST

Plan is to fix the minor mechanical issues and drive it. But bigger things are planned. Here are some more pics.

[IMG][/IMG]

It appears the original intake, carb, exhaust manifolds were installed on the 350. The 4-Jet ran pretty bad so I swapped to a rebuilt AFB I had in my stock. Runs okay now.

[IMG][/IMG]

[IMG][/IMG]
I had ordered a custom black plate for my other truck which was fitting for a number of reasons. BBC on the way.

[IMG][/IMG]
Couldn't handle the rat "scent" any longer so pulled out the seat and carpet.

[IMG][/IMG]
Cleaned up pretty well. Two areas of rust were found at the bottom of the kick panel. Otherwise floor looks good.

Re: 67 Chevy C20 CST - The Replacement

I can't find a paint code 520 for the 67. I know it is a light yellow of some sort.

and why am I getting the IMG by the photos?

Very nice score. Love the seats and speed warning. That will make a nice little driver

Re: 67 Chevy C20 CST - The Replacement

Thanks swamp rat.

Not at this time. A few reasons why I just fiberglass bondo it are I need to get it back driving asap and don't have the time to fix it. It is just a rattle can paint job not a full resto deal. The "paint" that was on the interior was just brown primer so I had to do something quick and it kind of evolved from just cleaning out the interior to making it nicer to look at. The whole truck will eventually get painted and the rust in the kick panel and cab corners will get fixed then.

Re: 67 Chevy C20 CST - The Replacement

Two steps forward one step back.

Got the dash done. Painted the cowl. Found rust/sludge in the gas tank. Bought a poorly made gas tank that is going back.

The hose was a bit loose on the vent so I safety wired it tight.

There's always something that needs to be difficult.
I took the cowl down to the paint store and had them match the paint and put it into a spray bomb.

Seems like it matches pretty good.

The PO admitted it stalled once and awhile but would start right back up. It happened to me once on the way home. I figured this might be the problem.

So I got a new tank from, a vendor, and tried to put it in. I thought it would be a fairly straight forward deal but no. The seam/flange whatever you call it is stamped wrong and about 1/2 inch off in comparison with the old tank.

I put a mark at the crease and measured to the bottom on the old tank.

The new tank is off by 1/2" which causes the hump on the back of the tank to hit the body when it should clear just under where it bolts up.

There's always something isn't there.

Re: 67 Chevy C20 CST - The Replacement

Slowly making progress. New tank from different vendor is in with new sending unit and new fuel lines. More issues with parts not fitting right.

Fuel line bends are in the wrong spot and it's too short.

So I made my own.

Side by side comparison.

Test fit the carpet.

Very nice. I like the quicky clean and paint. I've jumped into other projects before, with guns blazing and worked/spent the fun right out of the project.

Re: 67 Chevy C20 CST - The Replacement

Thanks. Yes it definitely has to be quick and within a very limited budget.
Finally got the interior back together. Still lots of things to do. Like a new water pump as I found out today.

Seats in and trying to make the tailgate look acceptable. Hopefully paint tomorrow.

Re: 67 Chevy C20 CST - The Replacement

Tailgate is painted. It wasn't worth spending a ton of time on since it seems like it has some sort of internal rust issue.
About 4 hours total to sand with 80 grit, heavy coat of primer, block once and rattle can paint it.
Seems like it matches the back of the cab and inside bed but not the outside.
