I remember when that '65 Impala kit came out. Bubble tops were a big hit in the custom world. Remember Beatnik Bandit (and many others). I built mine as a bubble top.

Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs

I'd like to see that! He sure built a lot of cars. Barris did a bunch of TV cars, but Darryl did George Jetson's car, I believe

http://youtu.be/QdWswvLPdE0

This one was at a great local show a few years back that almost died, Jalopyrama. The guy who puts it on is getting older and has talked about dropping out. Then in '17 the people (one old bitty) at the county ag center gave the show the boot because of one loud drag car that was driven into the building when setting up. He pushed it out after the show, but too late. Old beeyoch had her rigid mind set. So he said screw it, I'm done. No show last November, real bummer. But since then I heard it'll be back next year somewhere else

Well, I don't think practicality or hiway safety was always on the minds of customizers. But, those are lights that would be found on cars from the factory at one time. My dad's Land Rovers had tail lights that size. And figure the car they came on would have been 6 volt. People get used to where things have gone but if you went back in time and showed someone the tail lamps of today they'd think they were Times Square billboards .

That mild '61 is a local car. I see it all over, and for 20 or more years. The guy gets out and drives it. No trailer queen. Keeps it clean as the day he finished it

Ed "Big Daddy" we used to email each other all the time, I met him at the Route 66 run in San Berdoo in the eighties. Then one day my neighbor came over and said your friend died...

Cool rides, like the T-Bird. Getting back to some pickups that are Light Customs.

So very cool. I was partially raised by Ed and Rat Fink, although neither one knew who I was. A man of endless talent and imagination, This says it all:

I was a little Rat Fink. I'd order up his iron-ons for my mom to put on my tees.

This shows him pretty well, ya think?

As far as custom trucks go, I guess you could consider this custom

Certainly was a character, is my perception from afar. Did his own thing in a time when things were pretty much straight and narrow. Laid tracks for many to follow

Re: Picture Thread:Golden Era Customs

Great stuff old and new. That Chevy truck with clip-bed reminded me of a car I saw at Jaopyrama.

Shoot! It's trapped in P-bucket. Guess I should subscribe and empty that out. I hot giving them money with make it not so painfully slow and disfunctional. I dread the thought.

So here is a modern build, and yes a truck...kinda sorta

I've stared at Rick Newtons 65 gmc for hours in the 1991 issue of custom rodder.I started a thread in 60-66 section to see if Rick or the gmc was still around.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1549764019http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1549764019

His brother skip also helped me paint my blue chevy pickup, a 53 with 50 doors. The panel was in Street Rodder Magazine when I owned it. Rick appreciated that I told everyone he did the body mods/work.
Chopped, Channeled, Shaved, One Piece Body essentially. Should have never let it go...
