Freshly Lowered Questions.....

So last weekend my good friend and I got my 65 lowered finally! I have a couple questions for you guys that are far more experienced in lowered trucks than I am. First, what shocks do you guys run and recommend? Second, with 4 inches of spring drop in the front she is riding on the bump stops. While the ride isn't as bad as one would think, I would still like to find a way to remedy this issue without just cutting the rubber stop. Does anyone offer some kind of lower profile bump stops? I've looked at CPP and a few others, but can't find any. If not I can just find a way to make something, just curious if someone makes something. Thanks guys. hey fryer, i had the same problem i got energy suspension "universal" bumpstops! the stock bumpstops are parts# 39101 2.625" height pull thru for $14.99 + 4.88 s&h, i went with bumpstop parts# 99101 2.125" height threaded and is round for 9.99 + s&h, they have a bumpstop parts#99136 2"tallx2" square threaded its not really square its looks like a stop sign shape for $9.99 + s&h! if you do get the threaded ones like i did, its easier to just hold a wrench under the bumpstop mount and turn the bumpstop itself! hope this help some, here the site: http://www.energysuspensionparts.com...Shock-Eyes.asp

one more thing the pull thru bumpstops from energy suspension are stiffer then the stock bumpstops because of the polyurethane there is no give to them!

I still can run the standard truck shock in the rear, and I have 1949-50 Chrysler New Yorker shocks on the front. I think they came from Napa. The Chrysler are one of the shortest factory style shock out there and they work great.

well one thing i do know is when i was going thru looking for lowering shocks from cpp! for the back since your doing a 4/5 drop the stock front shocks and the same height and parts # as the 5" rear drop shocks! i got my shocks on sale on ebay because they had runs in the paint last summer for i think $40 a set! i would look on ebay for some you might find a good deal on some! or maybe someone else on here might be able to help you a lil more then me about the front! just my .02 cents

I also removed the front bumpstop and replaced it with an aftermarket one. See photo below.

Also, in regards to shocks, check out the link in my signature line regarding "upper rear shock relocation". It also includes alternate inexpensive Monroe shocks (about $25 a piece)

Found a good deal on some Belltec nitro shocks, so I've got shocks and bump stops on order. Thanks a lot guys.

I made upper shock relocators for the front of mine. Raised it 2.5" so stock length shocks still work fine (couldn't tell ya my drop but the front bumper just clears a standard curb).
In the rear I flipped the lower mounts backwards and swapped sides, then used the old front upper mounts off the side of the rear frame for upper/rear mounts.

That is pretty much exactly where mine sits now too. I may try some of your suggestions when I go to change out the rear shocks, sounds like some solid ideas. Thanks for the info and pictures.

You're welcome. And I should mention that the stability at highway speeds is incredible. Getting those rear shocks pushed outboard really helps.

At some point one of the previous owners installed air shocks on the rear of my truck. For now I am happy with them, and they seem to work fine in the rear (not to mention being able to add a little air to help level the ride when the bed is loaded down). But once I get a chance to install the C-notch kit I have sitting in my shop I am going to pull those air shocks out and get a matching pair of BellTech nitros for the rear. I'm going to give your relocation trick a try, I like the ideas and execution, and who couldn't use more travel and more stability?

No prob gents!

I went with monroe sensa-trac in the front and used the ones that were on the front (lighter valve/worn-in) on the rear. Would be perfect with some jeep rear springs (mine are cut for now). Rear bump stops are cut by 1/2.

I usually go for the latest/greatest aftermarket stuff, but this time I decided to keep it old school and use/mod existing parts.

i got pictures of my front shock mount! i went with the aftermarket relocators, i got 2" drop springs and bought stock height springs since the bolt hole moved up 2"-2.5" inches! i like your idea frizzle using parts you already had and a lil skills they look good, well done!!

they are from cpp, i had to lift my cab off a lil bit to drill the holes for the bracket to mount on the frame! can't remember how much they were or the part number.

I have a 71 C10 driver side front upper shock mounting is elongated this would be a good reason to relocate them will this work on a 71 C10 also the picture that you showed I'm curious where was the original location of the shock mounting was, is that hole next to it?

Guys this is a 6 year old thread and in the 60 to 66 section. You may not get a lot of feed back on what works on the later trucks. On the bad hole you can weld the hole up tot repair it. Those mounts should work on you later truck but I would look at the manufactures info. Jess for the most shock info go to the suspension section and take a look. That is where you will find the most information.

Ii did this on my 66' and it works perfect. No need to weld up the old hole.
BTW I used factory length front shocks on the rear when I relocated them. WAAAAAAYYYY Better set up. and on the cheap
