I played with a paint program to make mine look like primer red.

I'm curious, are you referring to the product Rustoleum labels as "rusty metal primer"? Beware if so, because it contains fish oil and real automotive paint doesn't jive too well with that. Apart from the primer, my entire truck is painted with Rustoleum products. Even the motor. I've been told all Rustoleum must first be removed prior to applying auto paint but for sure fish oil can't be good. I encourage you to go with a red oxide made for autos I used epoxy primer under mine.
