Exhaust Options

I need to get an exhaust for my 70 project truck...

Did you guys buy a kit or did you piece it together with the pipes and buy your own mufflers/glass packs?

I was looking at the LMC catalog and saw the $180-$220 option but figured with shipping it would be a bit more...

Curious to hear what you all did for your exhaust.

EDIT - guess I should add that I have the stock manifolds on a 350 SBC

Thanks!

Re: Exhaust Options

My body shop is installing a custom made exhaust using Dynaflow 3 chambered mufflers. He said the Dynoflow is a nice deep sound without being annoying while in the cab. I would think most exhaust shops could install a good system. Good Luck.

Re: Exhaust Options

I have been looking at the same systems you have. The problem with Jeggs and Summit is they want 60.00 to ship it besause they say it's "oversized" .The LMC system is only 2 1/4". I am running a 383 and dont think I should go less than a 2 1/2".

I guess I will end up going to a local custom muffler shop and have them install one.

Re: Exhaust Options

I bought some turbo mufflers from Jegs and had a local muffler shop do the exhaust out the sides in front of the rear wheels. $200 + the mufflers.

Re: Exhaust Options

I went with the homebrew method, which ran me a total of around $40 for glasspacks, $20 for pipe, along with the price for headers and reducers, etc.

It was quick, simple, and I like the sound. It's just headers -> glasspack -> pipe out in front of the rear tires.

It may not be exactley what you're looking for, but, it works well for me.

Re: Exhaust Options

Your best bet is to go to a local shop and have them do it. They have all the parts you need and you don't have to buy something out of a catalog and pay for shipping.

Re: Exhaust Options

I bought the LMC kit for my son's 76 SWB. I put it in myself and it went in without a hitch. The fit was great and we managed to keep the spare underneath. My only complaint is the turbo mufflers that I bought with the kit - not enough rumble. But that was two years ago and we have not had any problems with it.

Re: Exhaust Options

I had an exhaust shop do one a while back. The guy that did it ran the pipes down and to the outside of the frame behind the rockers. Then at the rear just past the crossmember he ran it back under the frame and over the rear end and straight back.It worked well, actually I didn't really like the longer system until,I had to swap a clutch. There isn't anything I could not get to on it and the sound is good.It just has the cheapie muffler shop glasspacks on it but I guess the length of the system quites it down some.

Mine looked almost like Big al's when done.
