With the 15s, the manual steering is actually quite nice. I plan to leave it manual even while going through the trouble of LS swapping.
To be honest, I didn’t find the manual steering as much of a pain as I did the manual drum brakes.
Maybe it’s just because I’ve been driving on large diameter wheels for so long, but I don’t really notice the difference anymore.

Re: Playing the long game!

I just want to say that I love your truck!

I have my Grandfather's farm truck, it currently has an older restoration done by my Father. I would like to do a frame off and perform a survivor build with a fake patina red like the original color. The photos attached are of my truck when it was red and current with the restoration. Looking at the exact look, white bumpers, big white steel wheels, and slightly lowered. Currently have a holley sniper and 4 wheel disc brakes but want to do a driver!

This is the 2002 3/4 ton 2wd that gave up her 100,000 km drivetrain. 6.0/4l80e. Will push old Tom down the road quite nicely i think.

Re: Playing the long game!

I’m just gonna kind of fly through things and try and get this thread up to date.

Various frame photos.

Rear end is a rebuilt 3:73 posi unit
Porter built control arms, 1” narrowed and centered, 3” drop coils and 2-1/2” drop spindles
Custom trailing arms with incorporated 2” blocks and recessed u-bolt mounting, allowing for stock u-bolts to be used
Full tank from a local company called Overkill customs, a beautiful piece.

This was just a flapper wheel, but you’re correct. A face shield wouldn’t hurt anything.

Re: Playing the long game!

Had the valley cover, valve covers and adapters and the intake powder coated.

Painted the block with this product. Its a brush on, goes on thick and lays down nice. Seems to be moire durable than the spray cans versions

A few shots of Karsen reassembling the top end.

None of these pics are faked, if the kids are there, they’re helping and learning.

Nice work and having the kids involved is a bonus! Do you clean your shop before you take pictures??? Mine looks like a bomb went off in Fred Sanford's junkyard.

Thanks, i try to keep it clean, i have too much junk to allow it to get too messy. Ironically, having the kids helping goes a long ways to keep it clean as i’m trying to teach them the importance of a clean work space, even if i don't always practice what i preach.

Re: Playing the long game!

Cab going back on the frame.

Two of my most important tools in action. Engine hoist with air assist cylinder, no more endless hours pumping. And my cab/box lift. Built off of drawings i bought from an old member on here.

Couldn’t do what i do without either of them.

Re: Playing the long game!

A little side quest.

Ran into a fella at a local swap meet last year. He had a 20’s truck with this on the side. The fella i bought the truck from has the same last name and is from the Medicine Hat area. Had a chance to talk to him, and sure enough same family in fact the fella knew my truck and seemed somewhat disappointed that I ended up with it.

Just another cool piece of the story.

Before anyone suggests that i sell it back to them. When I first met Tom, i was very sure to mention that after 50 years of ownership it should stay in the family if anyone wanted it. He chose to call me and sell it to me so it wont be going anywhere.

They do sell an aerosol, but the brush on seems appealing.

Interesting, i personally would’ve preferred the spray version as getting into I all the nooks and crannies of coasting was a pain.
