Stupid question of the day

Can anyone explain the purpose of the glass GM Optikleen bottle? If you already have a plastic washer jug for the washer / wiper system, how does the glass bottle come in?
Thanks!

Re: Stupid question of the day

You mean this?;

I never saw one on a truck but my understanding is that they were a spare bottle you kept under the hood. I'm sure there are guys here that actually know the answer.

Re: Stupid question of the day

Now I can not confirm this , if your bottle has the green and orange decal then it was the replacement bottle , if it has a black and white label , then it was from the factory. Kleer-View seems was prevalent to the early sixties.

Found this in the Canadian 63 Preliminary Parts Book.

Re: Stupid question of the day

Some reading indicates that the bottle was installed when you ordered the electric windshield washer option. In 63 Chevrolet that would have been RPO C14 Washer , Wiper 2 SPD according to the Chevrolet Order Sheet.
0167 before 1963 was the option number.

On the black and white label it is marked
3789848
THIS BOTTLE FURNISHED WITH YOUR FACTORY INSTALLED WASHER

Re: Stupid question of the day

The info for getting the bottle with the 2SPD washer / Wiper pertained to passenger car.
