66 c10 Backup Lamp Switch on the Column

Does anyone have a closeup picture where the switch mounts on the column underside? Specifically how the switch engages with the column rod or lever?

Here's some from a 66 2-speed. There's a tab that sticks out from the inner shifter tube that inserts into the switch actuator slot.

Re: 66 c10 Backup Lamp Switch on the Column

1 more question

1. The 2 parallel plugs are for the backup light wire (lt. green) and the ignition wire (pink).
2. The other 2 is the starter solonoid wire and the nuetral safety switch wire (label as such and both purple).

Im using a AAC wire setup

I dont think it matters on the lt green and pink but im sure it does on the 2 purples.

Any input?

Thanks

No, it doesn't matter. Both are just simple SPST switches. Input and output are reversible.

Also, you have the two switch functions reversed. It would only start in reverse and the backup lights would come on in park and neutral!

Re: 66 c10 Backup Lamp Switch on the Column

Hmmm, you said this was a 2-speed column. Not sure why or how the tab is not there unless it's something else...

The tab was originally formed by stamping out a "C" shape and bending the loose part of the tube out to make the tab. Since yours is torn down I think welding a tab on the tube would work. The hardest part would be placing it correctly, especially the right clock angle. Mine will be partially torn down soon to paint it. I might be able to get you some dimensions.

I didn't have to tear down the column to see where the tab is located. With the shifter in park the tab is pretty much pointing straight down. This photo is directly below looking forward. If you can get the tab within 1/4" that would be within the range of adjustment of the switch.

Re: 66 c10 Backup Lamp Switch on the Column

That would be the best way. But, there's a fair amount of room in the opening of the outer tube. It might be doable if you could figure out a way to hold the tab while you tack it.

The tab is 1/4" tall BTW and about the width of the outer tube opening.
