Re: Smoothing Firewall

Not to thread jack, but for me, it was faster to cut the wire gutter, and use a full sheet of metal. grind, weld, grind, paint.

If I ever do another custom I think this would be the way to go. Looks excellent! I have a question for you. I noticed in the first picture the wall was only cut back to the front edge of the wiring channel, and in the final product you cut it back farther which forced you to cut the doghouse back farther as well. With moving the firewall back that much how did you handle the booster bracket? What other modifications were needed?

Thanks. It did shorten the space, but ya gotta think about it, only like an 1" or so. I'm going to run the Wilwood reverse master clutch and brake pedal assy. I was thinking of running a "Scotts Garage under-dash brake booster". Just think, with all of the work we put into shaving the firewall, why stab something back through it, other than the steering column ***(disclaimer)Just my opinion****

All that hard work is looking great. Good job, makes me want to pull my motor out and do the same.

Re: Smoothing Firewall

Oh good grief. I wish I had not seen this thread as now you guys have me thinking. My 67 has just a bit of rust through on the driver's side in the channel but it's just the lip that is the issue. I have been wondering how to repair and you guys may have convinced me to just cut the whole thing off and make it look smoother anyway.

Couple of question for you smooth cowl guys.

1. Where to you plan on running the wires that were in the channel?
2. Are you all putting vintage A/C in your trucks or are some of you just not installing any heat or air?

My truck is a non A/C and I have not yet decided what I will be doing for heat, A/C, or no. I am WAY far from that decision needing to be made but it never hurts to start planning.

1. Run the wire down low across the toe panel seam
2. I'm using a Vintage air system . At this point what's another $1,000.00
