Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Found a claimed C10 Highlander ad without pictures. If someone is interested in a driving truck project and wants to run it down go for it. Don't forget to post pictures if you get them!

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

It was for sale this summer in Caddo Mills, TX on CL. IIRC was sold and in a lot of pieces.

Amazing the amount of incorrect fluff sellers put in adds!

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Found a set of PA1 wheelcovers on CL here in CA down in LA.
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv...801220789.html

For those of you with Promo Package C10 Highlanders, these were the stock covers. They will be listed on the SPID.
If you have a Highlander trim truck then it had the standard white painted hub caps unless an upgrade was ordered.

Considered a premium wheel cover, these "Special Wheel Covers" RPO PA1 could be ordered on any 72 C10 with most 15" tires.
Even a Cheyenne Super could be "upgraded" with these on an order!

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Tim, sorry I haven't responded sooner. i was having trouble finding a picture of a plaid GMC I used to have, but did find one. No pictures of the SPID, this was many years ago. But, here is a link to a thread with a picture of the plaid '72 GMC shortbed I had:

http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...ps2e6587c7.jpg
EDIT: Too bad that picture is gone from that guy's Photobucket. Shoulda saved it. Oh well, I'll just have to have another rendering done for my painter...lol 3/26/17

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

I have what I believe to be a "pre-promo package" Highlander. C10 Custom Deluxe, orange/white/orange, parchment belts/visors/door panels (painted black by some P.O.), black carpet, etc. Orange plaid inserts replaced with some other funky plaid inserts (I have a bolt of the original fabric to make a new seat cover, doesn't seem like it's very durable fabric!) but seat still has the embossed Parchment vinyl. Seat is listed as Highlander Plaid but there's no Promo package....I was trying to compile a list of VINs, I believe earlier trucks were listed like mine on the SPID before they came out with the Promo packages. I'll see if I can dig up the pics.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

There were both Highlander plaid trim trucks (offered since the begining of 72 production) and the later release Promo Package trucks that included the Highlander trim. The same trim codes are used on both. SPID descriptions vary some with plants as is the case with most options. However both were produced concurrently with the release of the Promo Package trucks. Promo Package trucks did not superceed the Highlander plaid trim trucks which were a stand alone upgrade of the Custom Deluxe trim.

While serial numbers are interesting they are not really helpful considering each plant had unique serial ranges. Thus a number of vehicles could be built with the same serial (sequence) number, but different actual build dates and probably models.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Here is the spid for my 1972. It has the 613 Code which gives the plaid seat and parchment interior trim and doesn't have a promo code. I have the original warranty card and protect plate and is was sold to the original purchaser July 5, 1972. SSTim I know you will read this so would the date the truck was built be on the broadcast sheet? It may be in the truck in the seat springs or under the carpet and as of yet I haven't looked.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

I know Tim and I had conversed about it but don't remember If I ever posted the SPID. Here's a few pics. My IPad will only let post one pic at a time do I have to resize them and if so how do I do that so I can post a few more.
Thanks

For all intents and purposes a Highlander - not a promo truck though:

Remember Highlander Plaid trim trucks were built throughout the 1972 MY running concurrently with the Promo Packaged Highlanders.

I didn't know all of that. Thanks for sharing.

I have a set of those covers on my 72. Though, mine aren't in great shape. The black accents around the edges are totally gone.

I think they're pretty ugly caps, though. -_-

I think most people will agree with you that the PA1 Highlander wheel covers are ugly. I am putting a set of P01's ( like on the truck attached pic) on my Highlander.

PA1s.... someone at GM must have liked them. They carried over into 73 just like the Highlander Plaid cloth option did.
