R&R door hinges and adjustments with fender on or off?

Is it easier to go the extra step and remove a fender to R&R hinges or remove the door completely and then remove the hinges leaving the fender on?
I have always removed the fender to gain access to the bolts on the hinges. By removing one hinge at a time I have found that I can keep the door at original height. With the fender off the hinge bolts that mount to the cowl are exposed making the final adjust of the hinge easier with a helper.

Does anyone have a different approach to R&R hinge and door adjustment?

proper procedure should be to align door, then align fender, then the hood. I would R&R the hinges with the fender off, adjust the door, then install the fender and shim it to get the correct gaps. adjust the hood if needed, but chances are you will probably reuse all the same shims on the fenders, so there would be no need to adjust the hood
