Tilt column

Looking to replace a crappy unknown automatic tilt column in my 64

The shifter is sloppy, and the key switch is just about shot.

What length is best for a 64

Re: Tilt column

I used a 70s van tilt column in my 65. No key on column and you just drill out the pins on the lower male/female end of shaft to get correct length to couple up to your rag joint . I just picked up another one for the wife’s 61

Re: Tilt column

I did the same as jrusher. I used a tilt column from a 72 van, collapsed the shaft like jrusher did and slid the column down as close to the dash as I could to give myself more room than the factory column allowed.

I see most have used a van column, but I'm assuming that they are hard to find these days.

If I go with an aftermarket column, what length is best.

Re: Tilt column

Can’t tell you the length for an aftermarket, but another source for a used column is old RVs. Check your area for RV salvage lots.

No 70's vans or RV's in salvage yards in my area
