OEM/older rear drums

I finished changing out all the front brakes parts including the newer 63 hubs. I inspected the brakes and they look OK, but want to change it all out to new meat anyway. I removed the old drum to see the wear and noticed it was shipped different than the one new replacement. Also the ring is "stapled" to the crown. I've never seen that before have y'all?

Interesting, have not seen that method before. I wonder if there was a process to replace only the drum ring back in the day or if that was just considered an easier manufacturing method?

Re: OEM/older rear drums

Well they are OEM, so I'll going to check the shop manual to see if they happen to show a picture.

If this came off a GMC Dana rear end they will look like that . I think the offset may be different also.

Factory gmc dana drums look like that. Search forums for alternative drums as the offset is not the same as chevy.
