Where to buy a quadrajet?

Who sells high quality quadrajets? I'm not real worried about the price but not looking for gold plating either.
I'm looking for one I will not have issues with. There's a lot of Companies in the game. Who to trust/who to avoid. I done a search but it was all old posts I was finding. Old posts are great for repairs or troubleshooting. But I need some up to date info on this as a Companies quality can change drastically over a few years.
Great forum guys and gals. The first place I look when troubleshooting anything on my truck.

Re: Where to buy a quadrajet?

I would highly recommend Cliff's High Performance Quadrajets. I have dealt with them personally and have been very pleased.

Also heard good things about SMI Carburetors. I've never dealt with them personally, but have read lots of good reviews about them.

I'd go with https://quadrajetpower.com/ 100% of the time. Good guys, quality work and very knowledgeable.

I'm sure there are others that are great too, but these are the ones I am familiar with so they're thee ones I'll stick with.

Re: Where to buy a quadrajet?

I talked to Johnny here this morning for a rebuild quote.. never bought a q-jet outright but had a couple rebuilt there 25 years ago.. nothing memorable about it so must have at least been decent

looks like they have quite a selection..

good luck!

I second this, had mine rebuilt last winter and couldn't be happier. Quick replies to questions and helpful when tuning. Definitely recommend these guys.

Re: Where to buy a quadrajet?

I bought one from:
http://www.nationalcarburetors.com

The carb showed up damaged, but they fixed it quickly. Truck seemed to run fine when installed, but when I sent them my 2barrel as a core exchange, they lost it and never credited me for it. (Eyeroll)

Re: Where to buy a quadrajet?

I recently bought a remanufactured Qjet from Summit. (URE brand) - It was bad out of the box. Returned it and the replacement was also bad. Junk. I had previously purchased a core to rebuild myself but it was bad, so that's why I was buying a reman. I ended up buying a new Holley spreadbore. Worked perfectly out of the box.
I have had a Qjet rebuilt by Cliff Ruggles for the 71 Blazer I had. He's the Qjet guru in the industry. Not cheap but it ran very well. He is normally very busy and it took a couple of months. I have bought good quality rebuild parts from both him and the Carburetor Shop that are alcohol resistant. Cliff wrote a book on rebuilding Qjets.

Re: Where to buy a quadrajet?

Thanks for all the replies. Cliff Ruggles is definitely the top guru of quadrajets. But he has a turnaround time of 2 months for a rebuild. Didn't see any actually for sale on his site.
SMI looks good. Don't know their time frame as they aren't open yet-California time zone. Most of the other links are 3 weeks minimum,up to a couple of months for build-shipping.
Thanks again to all who shared their knowledge. I'll update later with details of the direction I took and the results.

Quadrajet Power has carbs ready to go on their website plus they have over 2000 on hand they can rebuild for you.

Buying any carb can be a crap shoot........Some do well, as posted here, many not...Post 9 tells a tale I've seen play out all too often...

To contact Cliff, you need to email him. He obviously stays too busy to be on the phone much at all, during the day. His email responses usually come early in the morning...
Cliff can calibrate a Quadrajet, exactly to your engines needs, and it has ethanol resistant parts in it!!! Theres no telling how an off the shelf carb will be calibrated, ever...some are obviously close enough...most not

I would not know if he has a core to build for you, but I would ask. I'd hope you can wait however long it takes to get the BEST carb for your engine, it WILL be worth it!!!

Mine came from Summit and was exact rebuild for my truck. Looked like new and have had it on my truck for 6 years and never have had any issues.

Re: Where to buy a quadrajet?

I just ordered a stage 2 SMI 750 cfm quadrajet. 495 and an 8 week build time. They custom build it to the specs of the truck.

Put your request in here, see what the turnaround time is, they might have one in stock for you.

Re: Where to buy a quadrajet?

It's too late now astro. The order is in. 8 weeks will give me time to get my 700r4 right. It shifts at a low rpm, like 4200-4600.
