Need Electrical Help

I have a few issues with my truck.
*First off my dome light doesn't work I have replaced the fuse and replaced the bulb with a led one. Visually inspected the wire and don't see and cuts in it.

*Second my cigarette lighter sparks a lot when I try to plug it into the correct place on the fuse box it sparks a lot, Then when I put the cigarette lighter in will kick it out almost instantly.

*And my turn signals dont work, not sure where to start on them.

Any tips or solutions would be appreciated.

There is a switch that is in on the a pillar of the door frame. It should be silver in color. When you open your door it should create the ground side of the circuit for the dome light. I would start there as these break over time. Make sure the ground wire is hooked up as they can easily be pulled out.

I might just order a new housing. These are easy to replace. It simply unscrews from the back. Over time these will rust out and create a short. If your housing is clean then you may have a crack in the wire jacket going to the plug. You can always run a new wire strait to your fuse box to check this.

The flasher could be bad and is the easiest place to start. The main portion of the turn signal wiring is in the steering colum and can be replaced. You have to take your steering wheel completely off and then fish the wires out of the column. It’s not too terrible but you need a steering wheel puller.

Any tips or solutions would be appreciated.

I would also make sure your cab is well grounded as a poor ground could be causing all of your issues. Wiring can be a nightmare but if you stick to it and try the simplest solutions first you can usually trace down your problem.

Oh the wiring was a mess getting it fine tuned but thought about removing the lighter assembly and trying to clean the inside of it and try it. And does it matter if the little light is connected to the cigarette lighter. The dome light did work till I broke it and replaced the the dome lens and broke the bulb and replaced it and turned my light switch nothing.

Re: Need Electrical Help

Well flipped my led bulb in my dome light and it works. Didnt know that leds were directional but it fixed that problem. Now need to track down the issue with my turn signals and cigarette lighter. Thinking I may have the wrong amp glass fuses installed so gonna start there and see if that does anything.

Re: Need Electrical Help

Yes led bulbs are picky. It has do do with their design.
