Talking Re: love it or hate it, i need your imput

I appreciate your imput lefty. I agree im not foose but i feel i do ok. I took about 5 min at work to draw those ideas. But this is an idea i have been dreaming up about 3 years. I could pen it out very nice if i wanted and i have two images in my head. Im not trying to compleatly copy gm but rather pull from there design clues! I want people to see it comeing down the road and say check out that camaro no wait thats a charger,no oh what its a truck! I want it unique! I want to keep mostly gm look but i like how dodge cuts the top of the lights of not to mention the new camaro has that look as well! Im pretty certin as to how im going to do it, but that would spoil the suprise and take away from the good conversation on this board. I originaly wanted it to look just like that white truck but photo chop is alot more forgiving than a grinder and welder. One other thing in all of these pics nothing is bolted tight its just proped up for a visual. Ill try and hold off on anything else till its close to complete! Thanks for all the ideas and constructive criticism and complements folks!

Re: love it or hate it, i need your imput

well here I go again, I put this project on the back burner. then I decided I would give it a go today. and well I think I jacked it up now. I tried to pull off of the new Camaro look and well im just not digging it. this is just another mock up but I don't know if its worth the time to finish. Im starting to think I need to ditch the billet all together and run a black mesh that spans all the way across only exposing the headlight buckets. let me know if you think I should continue this path.

I like the grill........but I might try and change the head lights up, some flip up headlights would be cool and different or two smaller head lights. Do you have any pics with the headlights in it cause I bet it looks a lot different with the lamps sitting in there then just black holes.

Re: love it or hate it, i need your imput

maybe that's what I need to do put the lights in. I actually have some really trick black headlights with halo's. I still need to figure out what to do with the surrounding area of the headlight. I was thinking of making a turn signal like the new Camaros. to fill that side. I really wish the grill surround had softer angles. I had this one lazer cut at a price just to find out im not digging it lol. I also kicked around making plexi covers for the headlight area.

Re: love it or hate it, i need your imput

go to the junkyard and walk around and look for turn signal lights that would fit. you could always make plexi covers to hide them.

Re: love it or hate it, i need your imput

Ok, here is my completely worthless .02. I think what your struggling with is that your trying to take a design element from a completely different bodystyle and force fit it into this space and truck. What I mean by that is that the cars that these front areas come from have completely different body lines than the truck. They are curvy and fluid, where the truck is boxy and straight. The newer camaro is angular, not quite what are trucks are either. I love the idea of what your proposing. My suggestion is to take a step back, think about what you love about the camaro front end, and incorporate that into your truck. Then you end up with a unique idea that pays homage to the camaro with out directly taking from it. Then it will match the truck the way you want it to. Again,I think this is a great idea, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Re: love it or hate it, i need your imput

Do what you will with my .02. First, honestly your truck looks pretty cool as it stands, it just sounds to me like you're looking for that proverbial "cherry on top".

As it stands, only my opinion, while I think you are very close to capturing the Camaro spirit, it still looks a little more Javelin than Camaro. I think that is due to the blocking of the grill before it reaches the headlights and the lack of blocking along the top of the grill. The Camaro grills of 67-69, without the hidden lights, appear to continue behind and past the lights filling that grill space. Almost makes the headlights appear bug-eyed. Or they have no blocking at all, as is the case with some hidden-light models. If you could fab motorized/hidden headlight covers I think that would be over-the-top cool. But simply extending the grill out further adding a little top blocking could be enough to achieve the look. You could also put some smaller round turn signals to the insides of the headlights, like on a '68 and suggested above, this would also help to break up the space and keep that retro Camaro reference.

BTW - I am not entirely sure of the styling particular to the individual years, I had to refresh myself using Google images. So please everyone, no "flames" if I didn't get the details exactly correct.

Best of luck to you, looking forward to seeing more,

-Ed

Can you bring the headlights forward? I like em, and they get lost behind all framing.

Very creative. I like it, cause it looks evil. Now you have to make sure you have an evil motor to go with that look.

Starting to look like a 68 Camaro. How about give it the RS headlight doors.

Re: love it or hate it, i need your imput

little update , got to work on it some yesterday. I did not like the angle of the sides or how wide they were so I reshaped them and added a top bar. I wish I would have had time to put the logo and lights on but here is the final shape of the grille and surround. I will be starting on the headlight surrounds soon. also I kept thinking I was off center but it is the angle of the pic the shop is a little short lol. by measurements its spot on
