Lifted Blazers

Hey Guys
I just picked up this cool 80 K5 Blazer that we're looking to use as a daily driver but also take in the mud and trail ride with it. I was thinking a 4" lift with 33's would be what we're looking for but maybe a 6" lift with 35's would better.
I'm looking for pics and feed back on what works best for everyday driving

2.5" to 3" lift over 33's or 4" lift over 35's, either have been done many times over and will work fine for DD. Mine is 2.5" over 33's and I ran this same combo on a previous K5 I owned.

I drive my 74 daily it's a modified 2.5" on 33s
I could live with a 4" and 35s but I didn't like the 6" I had in it for daily driving it wasn't responsive if someone cut you of in traffic just too top heavy for its own good with the 2.5" I can whip steering wheel and be in the next lane under full control without even thinking about slowing down

1st pick 3" lift on 36s
2nd pick 3" lift on 35s
3-4 picks New 4" lift 35s. Truck drives and responds as good as any stock truck I have owned. Only problem I had was a slight vibration in 2nd gear. Dropped T-case 1/2 inch and that cured problem.

Picks 1 and 2 require some cutting on the fenders and inner fenders though

Yes pic1 is POs set up. He cut the fenders to accommodate the 36s. Those 36s were a true 36". my new 35s measure like 34.5. Guess it depends on brand. They were also 14" wide. New tires are 12.5 wide.

Are you guys running the 33/12.50 or 35/12.50's on an 8 or 10" wheel? I am still undecided on lift and tire size too. Leaning towards 4" with 35's on my '74 Jimmy. It will probably never see off road, though.

In my photos above, all are 12.5 wide (not positive on the 37's though).

Any chome type wheel was a Mickey Thompson 15 x 10.

The 33's are on factory 15 x 8's.

I prefer the 8" wide ones because the 10" rims seem to be close to the total tire width. It's really a personal preference than anything.

I saw a lot of 15 x 10 out there.

I have had a few k5 Blazers with 6" lifts and 35"s they were a lot of fun and did great off road. They didn't do bad as a daily driver but were not the most easy to navigate traffic and cruising around town in. If you do a lot of in town driving I would recommend going with a 4" lift and 33"s or 35"s at most. Kinda depends on how much flex you want out of your rig. Nice score though looks like it's going to be a fun project

Thanks man. I scored this running driving truck that all it needed to pass inspection was a rear brake line, for $1250!!! It's a father son build so my 17 year old can own the trails and mud over his buddies and their newer 4x4's

oh no, he's not even allowed to sit in the drivers seat of the 56. That's far to much power for a new driver. Plus, he's 6'- 8" tall and 300 lbs, he doesn't quite fit the 56 with the stock steering shaft

That's cool. My 15 yr old has claimed my 85 for his first truck. 6" lift might be a bit much for a young driver. Not saying he couldn't handle it, just "dad thoughts".

Those appear to be Armstrong Tru Grip RVs which were 37/14.50. I ran those on a few different body styles with 4" lift...and cut fenders on every one. I don't know when that picture was taken, but those tires must be ancient.

I never had vibration issues with 4" lift on a K/5. You may have some other issue that the angle helped show you

Special-K did you lengthen your drive shaft with the 4inch lich and those non-stock axles? I'm considering this right now because I just installed a 4inch lift with 3/4 ton axles and the amount of actual drive shaft yoke engagement of the TC seems questionable to me. It's only about 2 1/2 inches of engagement.

I would lengthen that. Not just for the yoke engagement, but the u-joint angle could use some help.

Thanks John. Yeah that's the direction I'm heading. Need to find a donor drive shaft to get cut down. May also shim the axle to improve my dangle angle

4" lift springs up front with a shackle flip out back seems to be the sweet spot for a K5. Or at least it has been for me. My 75 wheeled great with that combination. Highway road manners didn't really differ from stock. You don't have to get a 6" lift to run 35's. At most if you get a flexy set of front springs you might have to clearance the front corners of the fenders for clearance for turning under full stuff.

Personally, I prefer running the larger tire like a 35" with the 4" lift over a 6" lift to keep the center of gravity lower.
