A little progress on the rear end

I posted here a few weeks ago about a parts list for rebuilding my rear end. I had the passenger side axle seal leak on my first drive out after completely finishing my front end (minus cracking into the axle housing). To my wife's dismay, I went ahead and took the entire rear end apart. As of now, I have the leaf springs cleaned up and painted with new poly bushings. I'm still waiting on new rear shackles that are supposed to be in today from ORD.

This morning, I started on taking apart the axle housing. Take a look at what's left of the pinion shim and the inner pinion bearing. I don't know how this thing wasn't making a ton of noise going down the road - keep in mind, I only tore this apart because I wanted to, not because I thought i needed to... but now I'm glad as hell I did!

Edit - Sorry, I don't know why the pictures are so gigantic

Resized them for you...

Looks like normal high mileage wear to me...

Thank you for that... I couldn't figure out how to resize.

I guess it's comforting that it's normal wear... I was worried that it had been ready to blow up.

No apology necessary, Dleslie. The big pictures were great, shows the detail. Plus, nevermind that you already called it out...
