Brake Pedal Shaft - Firewall Hole Question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

There is a fairly large circular hole in the firewall of my 1971 Jimmy where the shaft from the brake pedal goes through. Is there supposed to be a grommet or seal there, and if so, can someone point me to a source? I tried to show it in the picture. It is beneath the brake booster assembly and in between the mounting brackets so is hard to see.

There is supposed to be a rubber boot and the pushrod goes through it. Let's see if I can remember how to do this...http://www.gmcpauls.com/pictures/47-...tpowerbstr.jpg

If the boot is missing, the heated air and fumes from the engine compartment will join you for the ride.

While you're installing that boot, look around and you will usually find several holes of various sizes that used to have rubber parts in them like grommets and the little doodads that hold the firewall insulation up inside the cab. These deteriorate and break apart after 30-40 years.

Wait until it's dark and slide a bright work light under the truck, then go inside and poke your head under the dash. you'll see all kinds of pinholes.

Call them ,their shipping calculator has been wrong before and they have sent me a refund . Nice mom & pop store with great customer service
